Create free accountyou merhaba hello everyone first of all it's such a pleasure talking to you and standing in front of all those creative minds we are so excited and happy about everything I'm Shyam and I'm 17 years old and I'm Jana are 13 and we are Sakura games with develop entertainment games for children to make education more enjoyable and interactive and support the curriculum let us tell you our story shortly and how we started Sakura we started as passionate young journalists making interviews with public figures who have impact on youth and children working for national and regional agencies and focusing on women's achievements we worked in TV radio dubbing and voiceover too at that time when Sean was happy
being in front of cameras and media I used the nerd the computer geek so when I was 10 years old I learned 5 programming languages small basic Java JavaScript HTML and CSS and now I know nothing about them because I focused on unity c-sharp we will tell you about that later after a while we learned about an impactful initiative created by the king abdullah ii fund for development which is gaming lab there we learn the basics of games development the experience at gaming law was really great i mean we made sure la caja de la casa no vera and sticky we truly know how much improvement they need they were Mina made after a few weeks of learning also a game related to gaming lab where unity chantix here - inside the place and tells you information about it and this
game was developed by our mother followed by zouna and Zachary but that wasn't enough for us that's why we started developing our skills and working on ourselves online courses YouTube style learning from others and hours of hard work all our games I proudly made with unity game engine and autodesk maya unity one of the most helpful and very fun game development tools unity really helps you to create super cool stuff Autodesk Maya this software means a lot to me when I say after this Maya I passed through all the amazing creations by Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios with Maya you can literally create magic I am so interested in the software and the last year I worked on my skills so hard until I became one of the only three experts enjoyed then who had professional certified from utter
Dez in Maya that was unforgettable and preparing for the certification was really challenging abdi fortune made with maya after we gain those skills we wanted to be back by welding products and sharing our knowledge that's why we started South Korea South Korea came from a really big drug lab which is as you know after all of the technology improvement in the whole world students still suffered from the same systemic modular curriculum and the lack of interactivity in education now after starting Sakura will part of the Hossein Technical University incubator the center of innovation and entrepreneurial excellence the experience paid is amazing we share and gain skills from other startups well now we'll tell you about the collaborations you know the traditional lovely dish that's why the first game is starting
with a casual game related to the traditional love with Asha where you have to aim the meatballs to abut and know they need is the heart that you get it used in cooking matza this game was made in collaboration with a homemade food delivery company have you tried non-soviet sure everyone moving to our passion edit Ament games creation a couple of class supporting games well developed with the international am an academy at the thinked of experience with the Royal Tank Museum in creating a guide augmented reality project to enrich the tool inside the museum by solving puzzles and playing games also a game related to customer service and dealing with employees and this game was developed with a Lili learning skills platform another edutainment game with the one with the academy in the UK
in the UK to teach kids about different cultures and languages oh so now we're global ambassadors for the global youth entrepreneurs organization where we aim to spread the knowledge of entrepreneurship all around the world so we make startup camp events and to engage teenagers and the intrapreneurs enterpreneurship and gustave now let's tell you about other games with our loved cocoa I was made in the gay game jam in just three days about the kill it for magical turtle saving her kids room evil bad cute moving on to sumo Zhu Madrid and Zachary Sukhram it's okay so Cara those games are are still in development is a game that we have been working on to give the Fugees hope that they can still one day develop their country last year we
started a couple of collaborations with Buddha and they keep the eyes are really promising those are our favorite tactic bouncy and since we started our journey we have been really interested in spreading what we learn to use especially girls and we also focus on one of the important sustainable development goals which is the quality of education quality education why is it which - Vic said kashira we also gave a cover the workshops are ticks and at gaming lab about game development and design our Dean's got many many awards and nominations and crimson last year was part of the big indie the judges really liked crimson so it
took like the second place of this competition now let's meet crimson crimson is an entertainment game for the arabic-speaking children he's crimson the rabbit and Rose are the kitten you you learn five cut four categories calories numb various shapes and letters the basics in Arabic and English for Arabic speaking kids so he is Kristen scene where do you learn Arabic by listening and then dragging their arse answer and dropping F into the answer box there is draws a scene where you learn English and enhanced with a feature that allows you to take selfies and pictures with the characters wherever you are to summarize all what we do we started a YouTube channel called chairman General Abdul where we share our experience with people we make
videos related to the process of developing games competitions we participate and and we also make covers for books that are related to game design and business so now we are going to start pretending that we are talking have you please subscribe people thank you so much it was a pleasure talking to you and now it's time for questions the first question is how many subscribed yet have you that's fantastic have you got a URL that you can show us the so we can sign up tell me the URLs I can type it in there very yeah an English one I will go subscribe so it
does anyone have any questions I mean like I say I met these guys like three years ago and they were already astounding then and then hopefully I don't think you'll agree amazing job doing this tour did anyone have any questions though go on so ok let me ask one so you're doing a whole bunch of things around you know trying to reach out and encourage other people like yourselves to to get involved in making games what's the biggest challenge do you think for getting more people like yourselves to make games if stereotypes many people think that they are still in school they have to finish college then they can search for a job and learn new things but the thing is school is not enough you have to learn something else while in school responsibilities that many people think that the games development is so easy you learn it needs a really hard work
and we're still beginners we still have a long way to go said why would you be making games twenty years is fine but a hat on code the but that's the thing I think it's really fascinating if their tools do make it possible for you to and but how do you find the time we I mean you've got school you've got all this other stuff going on you got family life have you how do you find the time to do that you study you study you'd exam before two hours of the same exam yeah yeah that sounds about right especially and I am Tom Sheehy Oh everyone enjoyed the knows what table G he means well that's that to have the last the senior year you're not here so you even you die you die or you study hopefully study things I mean you're clearly doing beautifully so you starts
that you're doing these interviews and this journalistic pieces how big a change does that being that was that really useful for you now you're doing the youtubing side yes it was so beneficial because we wake on entertainment and the main component is the the content you create so learning and being part when you make interviews and when you make cover you have to know I don't really well and that's what we do we develop a detainment and Arabic for advic speaking kids so it's really beneficial and is that do you think it might be an advantage because you're in a an underserved market that you've got opportunities maybe somebody in the UK would struggle with or do you think it's just a question of making the decision and doing it well is it do you think it's easier for I don't know I'm wondering if it's easier for you because the the MENA market is slightly underserved in terms of game development and and particularly in terms of games which are educational do you think that
that's an advantage for you or is it just one I think selling an education thing it's really hard and you have to pay them and give them the game and please just pay it people are not easily playing educational games that's why we started customizing games for schools so they can apply it to their curriculum if you were asked to use a textbook or a game no matter how bad but the game has you'd use yeah okay yeah I get that but the idea that you're doing that and you're doing it specifically for schools at the same time is still studying it sounds really really even harder than I thought you were already doing yes that's we also make hybrid Karen yeah so the hyper casual is huh well when you have fun while doing a game well so how did that relationship with voodoo start so you had a country conferences like this get you in front of amazing developers
and even people who are just starting out and get attention and get this conference is one different that's what we like to hear any any other questions while I'm standing it got a question right there we get a mic referred to you for the recording hopefully just be two seconds Oh bright light what or who's your inspiration we may one we take an inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios but they even don't work in the same industry I don't know inside out yeah any fascinating moved from others needs an inspiration learning learning from others we are not gamers we watch movies more than that's why detainment creation is much easier for us yes we we not we don't play games that much that's why creating entertainment games is more it's more fun I think that's quite
interesting cuz it's it's it's something that more games people should do is look for inspiration outside of games because we just we often will churn the same idea whereas if we start looking outside of our own narrow view hopefully we can make better games to natural yo-yo do you will get the microphone to you hopefully just two seconds oh there's fabulous games like Monument Valley yeah Monument Valley relate to nothing the mechanic relate to nothing we develop but we we stand quiet in front of us it's so fabulous and bodily we don't know who is about to say that I think it's harder for gamers to develop a game about learning when you can develop a game about like shooting zombies and stuff you know so I mean it's it's very
easy risk of war in physics unfortunately I have to call a closer thank you so much this is amazing
Sakura Games, founded by teenage developers Sham and Jana Al Bdour, focuses on the development of edutainment software designed to integrate interactive learning into school curricula. Operating out of Jordan, the founders leverage their backgrounds in journalism and media to create content that addresses the lack of interactivity in traditional educational systems. Their work spans various platforms, utilizing the Unity game engine and Autodesk Maya to produce educational games, augmented reality museum guides, and cultural learning tools for children.
The development process relies on self-directed learning through online resources and collaborative efforts with regional and international partners, including the King Abdullah II Fund for Development, the Hussein Technical University incubator, and various educational academies. Key projects include Crimson, an award-winning language-learning game for Arabic-speaking children, and various collaborations with food delivery services and museums to create hybrid and casual gaming experiences. Beyond game production, the founders serve as global ambassadors for youth entrepreneurship, hosting workshops and maintaining a YouTube channel to share technical insights and business strategies with other aspiring developers.
The primary challenge identified by the founders is overcoming societal stereotypes that suggest professional development must wait until after formal schooling. They argue that the current educational model is insufficient on its own and that students must actively pursue technical skills, such as programming and 3D modeling, while still in school. By targeting the underserved MENA market with customized educational solutions for schools, they have successfully navigated the difficulties of selling educational products. Their approach emphasizes looking for inspiration outside the gaming industry—specifically in animation and film—to create unique, engaging experiences that prioritize pedagogical value over traditional gaming tropes.
