The company's headcount in Germany will decrease from 215 to 185 employees by the end of 2023. This reduction is part of an effort to address financial challenges.
Germany-based esports and gaming organization Freaks 4U Gaming has initiated a workforce reduction as part of a broader effort to address ongoing financial challenges within the current market environment. The company confirmed that it will cut approximately 30 positions by the end of 2023, reducing its total headcount in Germany from 215 to 185 employees. The affected roles span various operational departments, including production, creative services, and community management.
These layoffs coincide with a significant restructuring of the company’s esports portfolio. Freaks 4U Gaming has announced the sunset of Summoner’s Inn, a platform that supported the League of Legends community in the DACH region for a decade. Additionally, the organization is relinquishing control of the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) to the Denmark-based platform Leagues.gg, effective at the start of 2024.
Industry analysis suggests that these moves represent a strategic pivot to streamline operations. While the company is exiting several esports activities, it intends to maintain its focus on the Prime League, the European Regional League for the DACH region. The situation reflects broader instability in the esports sector, where many organizations are currently scaling back operations to align with shifting economic realities and market demands.
