Summary

Joseph Ziegler, a veteran game director, has transitioned from Riot Games to Bungie, a studio owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment. This move follows Ziegler’s departure from Riot Games in December 2022, marking the end of a tenure spanning more than 12 years. During his time at Riot, he was a central figure in the development of the company’s major intellectual properties, most notably serving as the senior game director for the popular tactical shooter Valorant.

While the specific nature of his new responsibilities at Bungie remains undisclosed, industry expectations suggest his role will likely involve contributing to the studio’s flagship franchise, Destiny. This appointment represents a significant shift in leadership within the high-profile shooter genre, as Ziegler brings extensive experience from his previous roles at Riot Games, as well as earlier positions at Electronic Arts’ Pandemic Studios and the now-defunct Killspace Entertainment.

The transition highlights ongoing talent movement within the competitive gaming and development sectors. By securing a director with a proven track record in managing large-scale, live-service titles, Bungie reinforces its commitment to the continued evolution of its primary gaming assets. This development underscores the broader trend of senior creative leadership moving between major studios to oversee the long-term growth of established, high-revenue franchises.
