This growth reflects a trend of steady funding increases. It aims to strengthen unity among international athletes.
Like a small stream growing into a powerful river, the prize pool has expanded significantly over a short period.
The International Esports Federation (IESF) has announced a $1 million USD total prize pool for the 2024 World Esports Championship, marking the largest financial commitment in the tournament's history. Scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 11 to 16, 2024, the event represents a significant escalation in the organization’s investment strategy, with officials noting that the prize pool has increased tenfold since the 2021 edition.
This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort between the IESF and the Saudi Esports Federation. The funding will be distributed across several competitive titles, including Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, and eFootball. The structure of the payout ensures that the top eight teams in each category receive a portion of the earnings, while all 16 participating teams in the PUBG Mobile competition are guaranteed a share of the prize money.
The tournament features both men’s and women’s competitions, reflecting a broader effort to foster inclusivity within the global esports landscape. By significantly raising the financial stakes, the IESF aims to strengthen unity among international athletes and establish a precedent for continued growth in future championship prize offerings. The announcement underscores the increasing influence of regional partnerships in scaling global esports events.
