Sensor Tower
Genshin Impact has achieved a significant financial milestone, surpassing $1 billion in global mobile player spending in less than six months following its September 2020 launch. This performance establishes the title as the fastest mobile game to reach the $1 billion threshold, outpacing other major industry hits such as Pokémon GO and Lineage M. The game maintains a strong revenue trajectory, averaging approximately $160 million in monthly spending since December 2020.
The game’s commercial success is driven by a robust live operations strategy, which frequently introduces new characters and events that trigger substantial spikes in daily revenue. For instance, the introduction of specific characters has seen single-day spending reach as high as $15 million, significantly exceeding the game's daily average of $5.8 million. Globally, China serves as the primary market, contributing 29.5 percent of total revenue, followed by Japan at 27.2 percent and the United States at 18.5 percent.
Data for this analysis is derived from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform, covering global consumer spending on the Apple App Store and Google Play between September 2020 and March 2021. While the App Store accounts for 60 percent of total global revenue, Google Play represents the majority of spending outside of China. By maintaining its position as the top-grossing mobile RPG internationally, the title demonstrates the effectiveness of consistent content updates in sustaining long-term player engagement and monetization within the competitive mobile gaming landscape.
