FTUE: Apple TV

hello sir welcome to Pocket Gamer talk biz so we planned playing around with that Apple TV but before we kind of set it up for do a quick comparison really so looking through your boxes what did we find so this is you see that who remembers that the ear this actually kind of chunky think that's couple years old now that one that kick-started and then then we go anywhere and got bought by razor and is no more android-based um so kind of I guess it's more similar thing to the apple TV because always just for gaming is this so this is the nexus just to show you the size of the the the box I suppose that's the android TV and in comparison here here we are is Apple TV so I think Z this is count of the it's quite quite heavy I mean see

size-wise compared to the Android TV android wonderfully circular for more stylistic purposes i guess you can see the difference in the thickness so between the two there's the Apple TVs what's that probably get off with two and a half times thicker and not that much smaller really so chunky bit of kit now there are three things have been connected to my TV got a few other chromecast and stuff in there at the moment but I'm another thing to remember the fans as well kind of ironic as both this is kami the third revolution begins billions revolution even um and it whenever anyone plugs in like new inch of TVs was a revolutionary thing that holds been banging on about how young new TV or never never never beat TV won't we never the same again and the audio so we'll see weapons and we'll plug in I'm sure we'll get all the usual things everyone else gives us like Netflix and other streaming services and some games well hopefully so there we go

which is a exclusive Apple TV game from harmonix and tilting point I mates obviously from Ubisoft when I forgot them here obviously written this year all right we've got these sport Crossy Road was one of the famous that was that was there when the apple TV was announced Raymond adventure free-to-play geometry wars transistor old pc console game shadow mattox very nice but there's peito hissing it's one of the interesting things we were kind of we've been debating really um how how much developers would use this is a free-to-play experience on how much as a paid experience obviously Apple is at the moment or has before an island for a while now on years really been trying to push its platform as a paid platform that's partly because it knows free-to-play is very difficult for and some most developers related to make

money out of unless you have a a very smart analytics team and making a certain type of game very hard to make money out for you to play though the interesting thing with apple TV is of course euro being a great example there's no advertising at the moment on the apps on appletv so crotty road has made over ten million dollars on basically on its video ads can't do that on this platform at least at the moment there's no ads so that's another big issue for people who would otherwise do free games and hope to monetize on advertising so it's why we've kind of been expecting Apple TV to be more of a paid platform so I'm kind of seeing Pete sports it's fairly expensive us eight pound a second beam dollars to know that you know we're seeing a higher price point on the Apple on the TV then we would do on on on the iPhone on the iPad but still a fair amount of free stuff so I'm going to get back to a ride you know pretty famous game iphone game

ones and only has an old Canabalt couple years old now aged extended that's all pretty old I just have a quick click and sees might be embarrassing but we can see there's be interesting plot people is so these are games that so these are games I've purchased all must have had more than that anyway um that I've already got on iOS that it's kind of mirroring through these are games that i've already downloaded on iOS other platforms that are available now is it kind of a unified app across its across TV s'okay and search so got trending i mean i think very exciting about that is it status so search the one I think it people been bit surprised about is you have Siri which is it a quite powerful voice

search doesn't work for games which people are rather than worried about so I wait to find a game let's think of the game when I was on there ok so I'm look at this one let's see if I put it right anything good the game very good who's there so there's tiny tracks from our friends at strange flavor in UK trains little tiny trains ok don't actually want to play but I'm so if you know the game you want you can find it firm he has been kind of a bit of a typical apple issue really that started with the I the Apple watch that if you've not been if you're not featured on the store

then it's very difficult to get difficult to get any any discoverability which is given them out of games that coming out for the will be coming up for the TV that's going to be a big problem well people update the moment it's not means games out for it but there are probably having two games quite quickly and if you have to the only ones that going to make any money the ones that being featured by fall that's going to be not a great solution for many people now I'm stuck here like this the idiot has got stuck again I've lost my wife to come a song you know oh can we go back we're not back by now menu probably really go there's a backbone is good money like I need it salt solve that so that's so we tried downloads I think so get back joy ride let's see oh it's going to happen so looks like he's gonna take some time

to download is it or is it going to go to speedy speedy I guess I'll see it depends on my internet but my that's fairly quick i would think next year my drawings got very big big in it well maybe we'll just wait for a second while all that downloads okay so download it didn't take that long but it down for you guys I suppose so let's open it so another kind of an interesting point with apple TV is obvious it comes with this the very image very small little remote control with a touchscreen and as we finally worked out i click on it oh but the apple TV also the support gamepad yep let's just turn it down so there is a

kind of vermin it's a third-party the steelseries kind of controller is apple to prefer third-party control section when you buy Apple TV you can you can buy that you know it's part of a not really a bundle but you can add it as a peripheral but also that all standard them mi all game pledge of support mif naoma enabled which is a kind of them the standard for a cool stuff maybe they will work on Apple TV there is this big kind of issue that Apple you know to have a standardization has to have all games have to work with the remote because most people clearly will not be buying a controller imagine being mated more than ten percent of people with epithelia as you have control so you can't assume people will have a controller even though obviously most gamers would go out and get in control or whatever control it will work with it not see if you wanted to play but thats Sarah Lee jetpack joyride but a lot of games you'd want a joystick or multiple joysticks and Sorel bandsaw matter anyway um never go and see what see what

apple TV is TV shows so I guess these kind of things we're just going walking into itunes and buying stuff for their wellness as soon as past eight pounds and go and movies so kind of yes like the App Store honor on the TV isn't it ready which is kind of what an apple TV has always been about computers things think I've downloaded so pretty young pretty fast kind of you I compared to something commits that Android TV which is a bit more little more vertical in terms of how it has a user interface we can see we can get an idea what's going on obviously this kind of stuff I guess certainly when it comes to gaming we

will there will be changes as more stuff comes on board I guess it'll be a bit other in the other thing will be interesting to see if it has the weekly kind of update cycle that you have on the iOS App Store all you only like doesn't not commute like there's not commit so the bike oh okay did I not buy on itunes maybe was free before okay there we go that something you write so no go apple TV yeah if the you can you tap it you tap on the remote control and that's something that we didn't know then like an idiot when you do your youtube video it may we come back in in a month or so and see kind of how it got on and maybe a few games with the joypad

as well or in a controller see how that changes it I guess the other thing that we just can see is how people start doing kind of releases across all app stores now so you got fight phones apple tv's I guess mac store as well so that's quite powerful if you get features across and what kind of stuff and that's been quite powerful for people in terms of them getting their game can they gain momentum from your stuff cool okay so there we go Apple TV won't give us mark out 10 I think not yet but um maybe maybe come back come we came up to 70 see how ago alright then bye sweet
