Capcom
Capcom’s financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2019, demonstrate a period of sustained growth and record-high profitability. The company achieved its sixth consecutive year of operating income growth, with net sales reaching 100.03 billion yen and operating income rising to 18.14 billion yen. These figures exceeded initial guidance, driven primarily by the strong performance of the Digital Contents business, which remains the company’s primary revenue engine.
The Digital Contents segment, specifically the consumer home video game division, served as the primary catalyst for this success. Key titles such as Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 performed above expectations, while the continued global success of Monster Hunter: World—which surpassed 12 million units in cumulative sales—bolstered results. The company also saw a significant shift toward digital distribution, with the digital sales ratio rising to 60.5% and the overseas sales ratio reaching 85.4%. This transition toward digital downloads and catalog title sales contributed to improved operating margins.
Secondary business segments showed mixed results. Arcade operations maintained steady growth with a 2% increase in same-store sales and the addition of new locations. Conversely, the Amusement Equipments segment faced a downturn, with sales and operating income declining due to subdued market conditions and a reduction in the number of pachislo models sold. Despite these challenges, the company’s overall financial position remained robust, characterized by increased cash reserves and a commitment to shareholder returns, including an annual dividend of 35 yen per share. Strategic initiatives, such as the expansion of esports leagues and the development of film adaptations for major intellectual properties, continue to be prioritized to enhance long-term brand value.
