Capcom
Capcom’s consolidated financial results for the six-month period ending September 30, 2016, reflect a transitional phase characterized by a strategic focus on major title releases scheduled for the second half of the fiscal year. During this period, the company prioritized infrastructure investment, including the launch of a new R&D facility, and focused on brand development through eSports initiatives and media cross-promotion. Because the primary software lineup was reserved for the latter half of the year, the interim period relied heavily on catalog titles and supplemental content.
Financial performance for the first half of the fiscal year showed a decline compared to the same period in 2015. Net sales reached 28,676 million yen, a 9.4% decrease, while operating income fell 39.7% to 1,715 million yen. Ordinary income and net income attributable to owners of the parent experienced more significant contractions, dropping 82.2% and 79.2% respectively, largely due to foreign exchange losses stemming from the appreciation of the yen. Despite these results, the company maintained its full-year earnings forecast, projecting net sales of 85,000 million yen and net income of 9,000 million yen, representing anticipated year-over-year growth.
Segment performance varied, with the Digital Contents business seeing a 14.5% increase in net sales, driven by steady performance from re-releases and mobile content, despite a decline in operating income. The Arcade Operations business grew, benefiting from regulatory changes and community-focused marketing, while the Amusement Equipments business saw a significant contraction in sales due to a limited release schedule. The company remains committed to its strategy of concentrating major product launches in the second half of the fiscal year to drive full-year profitability.
