UK-based esports organization Guild Esports has re-entered the competitive Apex Legends scene by signing the Australian-based team Serenity. This strategic acquisition is designed to bolster the organization’s presence at the upcoming Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The newly signed roster, which includes players Benjamin Spaseski, Tyson Crossman, and Tom Canty, alongside coach Winnie Long, has signed a one-year contract to represent the organization.
The move is primarily driven by the Esports World Cup Club Support Program, which incentivizes organizations to expand their competitive footprint across multiple titles. As one of 30 partnered teams in this program, Guild Esports is aiming to accumulate points in the Esports World Cup Club Championship, a cross-game competition that offers a share of a $20 million team prize pool. To qualify for this championship, organizations are required to compete in at least two distinct titles; in addition to Apex Legends, Guild has secured a spot in the ESL R1 racing circuit.
This development marks a return to the title for Guild, which previously maintained an Apex Legends roster between October 2021 and June 2022. By integrating the Serenity roster, which had already qualified for the event, the organization positions itself to compete for a portion of the $2 million prize pool allocated specifically for the Apex Legends tournament. This expansion reflects a broader industry trend where organizations prioritize multi-title participation to maximize their eligibility for high-stakes, cross-game tournament incentives.
