The Los Angeles-based esports organization 100 Thieves expanded its digital footprint in July 2023 by launching a custom game mode titled Bank Heist within the Fortnite ecosystem. Developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), the project represents a strategic pivot for the organization as it seeks to diversify its content offerings beyond traditional competitive esports. The mode features round-based, team-oriented gameplay centered on heist mechanics, incorporating original environmental assets and themes developed by the company’s internal game design team.
The development process for Bank Heist involved direct collaboration between 100 Thieves’ internal game developers and prominent company creators, including Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter, and Jack “CouRage” Dunlop. This initiative serves as a precursor to the organization’s broader game development ambitions, specifically its ongoing work on a separate, unannounced AAA shooter title currently being built in Unreal Engine 5.
By committing to the UEFN platform, 100 Thieves signaled a long-term interest in creating proprietary Fortnite experiences, with plans to release additional game islands in the subsequent months. This move aligns with the organization’s wider business strategy of diversifying revenue and engagement streams, which already includes the production of the energy drink brand Juvee and the ownership of the boutique keyboard manufacturer Higround. Through these efforts, the company continues to position itself as a multifaceted gaming and lifestyle brand rather than solely a competitive esports entity.
