Booth leaves the company after a 34-year tenure, having joined Sony Corporation America in 1989.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially confirmed the departure of Connie Booth, the long-standing head of internal production at PlayStation. Booth, who served the company for 34 years, was a pivotal figure in the development of the PlayStation brand, having joined Sony Corporation America in 1989. Her tenure included significant contributions to the company’s internal production strategy, where she played a key role in fostering creative environments for major studios such as Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games.
Throughout her career, Booth was credited on over 120 titles, including foundational franchises like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Her influence on the industry was formally recognized in 2020 when she was inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame. Despite her extensive history with the organization, the specific reasons for her exit remain undisclosed by Sony representatives.
Following her departure, industry reports indicate that Angie Smets, the former studio director of Guerrilla Games, has assumed a leadership role in development strategy. Smets, who has been with the company since 2003, was appointed as the Vice President and head of development strategy in April 2023. While the transition marks a significant change in leadership for PlayStation’s internal production division, Sony has publicly acknowledged Booth’s positive impact on the success of PlayStation Studios and her dedication to supporting game developers throughout her decades of service.
