The Game Business
This strategic move aims to enhance organizational agility and financial stability. It will allow the parent company to focus on other key titles.
Ubisoft has established a new standalone subsidiary dedicated to its flagship intellectual properties: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. This strategic move aims to improve organizational agility and financial stability following a period of underperforming releases. By isolating these core assets, the company intends to transform them into long-term, evergreen game platforms while allowing the parent organization to focus on other key titles, such as Tom Clancy: Ghost Recon and The Division.
The subsidiary is valued at €4 billion, with Tencent securing a 25% stake through a €1.16 billion investment. While the new entity will operate with an independent leadership team, it will remain under the oversight of a board controlled by Ubisoft. The subsidiary will integrate staff from various international studios, including locations in Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia, though the exact allocation of personnel remains under review.
This restructuring represents a significant shift in Ubisoft’s operating model, designed to capitalize on the high performance of its primary brands. The initiative follows a challenging financial period for the publisher and reflects a broader effort to align resources with evolving player expectations and emerging technologies. The transaction is expected to conclude by the end of 2025, marking a foundational change in how the company manages its most valuable creative assets.
