Top Grossing Mobile Games: May 2018

The mobile gaming landscape in May 2018 was defined by the sustained dominance of established titles and the notable resurgence of legacy games. Tencent’s Honor of Kings maintained its position as the highest-earning mobile game globally across the App Store and Google Play, marking nine consecutive months at the top of the revenue charts. This analysis utilizes data from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform to rank the top-grossing titles worldwide, providing a snapshot of the competitive mobile market during this period.

A significant development during this month was the performance of Epic Games’ Fortnite, which climbed to the fifth position in global App Store gaming revenue. This achievement was particularly noteworthy as it represented the first time since May 2017 that a non-Asian developed title reached the top five in this category, signaling a marked improvement from its eighth-place ranking in April 2018.

Simultaneously, GungHo Online Entertainment’s Puzzle & Dragons experienced a surprising return to the top 10, securing the sixth spot in combined global revenue. This performance marked the title's highest ranking since August 2016 and broke a 13-month streak during which the game remained largely outside the top 10. While the long-term sustainability of this resurgence remained uncertain, the data highlighted the continued volatility and potential for established properties to re-emerge as top earners within the current mobile gaming ecosystem.
