Tencent maintained its dominant position, generating $3.2 billion in in-app purchase revenue.
Tencent maintains its dominant position in the global mobile gaming market, leading the industry in revenue for the first half of 2024. This performance is largely driven by the sustained success of established titles such as Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile, bolstered by the significant launch of Dungeon & Fighter Mobile. The analysis, which utilizes data from AppMagic, focuses on in-app purchase revenue across iOS and Android platforms, excluding advertising income and third-party Android store earnings.
The top 10 list of mobile publishers by revenue for the first six months of 2024 highlights a competitive landscape. Tencent secured the top spot with $3.2 billion in revenue, followed by Scopely at $931 million and NetEase at $912 million. Other notable performers include Playrix ($873 million), miHoYo ($764 million), and Supercell ($753 million). The remainder of the top 10 consists of King, Dream Games, Roblox, and Century Games, all of which generated between $471 million and $735 million.
Several publishers demonstrated significant growth trends during this period. Scopely’s revenue nearly tripled compared to the first half of 2023, primarily fueled by the performance of Monopoly Go!. Similarly, Supercell experienced a notable surge, with its six-month revenue nearly matching its total earnings for the entirety of 2023. While the top 10 publishers command the majority of the market, other major industry players such as Bandai Namco, Moon Active, and Zynga continue to generate substantial revenue, though they fell outside the top 10 rankings for this specific timeframe.
