This figure represents 30% of the company's total quarterly revenue of $21.5 billion.
Tencent’s financial performance for the third quarter of 2023 underscores its continued dominance as the world’s leading video game company by revenue. During this period, which ended September 30, 2023, the company generated $6.36 billion from its gaming operations, representing 30% of its total quarterly revenue of $21.5 billion. While the company’s overall profit saw a 5% year-over-year decline to $5.1 billion, its gaming segments demonstrated consistent growth.
The domestic gaming market in China contributed $4.52 billion to the total, a 5% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth was fueled by the successful launches of Valorant and Lost Ark, alongside the sustained performance of established titles such as Honor of Kings and Dungeon & Fighter. Simultaneously, the international gaming segment grew by 7% year-over-year, reaching $1.84 billion. Key drivers for this international expansion included Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, Valorant, Triple Match 3D, and a notable revenue recovery for PUBG Mobile.
Looking forward, the company intends to prioritize long-term growth through increased investment in content-driven titles and the expansion of its existing intellectual property. Strategic plans include developing mobile versions of popular brands like Valorant, creating new iterations of evergreen hits, and adapting third-party franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and Monster Hunter for mobile platforms. Additionally, the company is leveraging high-margin revenue streams from its WeChat Mini Games segment and increasing its focus on integrating proprietary artificial intelligence models to enhance product features and advertising targeting capabilities.
