The move focuses on Indonesia and the Philippines.
In May 2024, the international esports organization Team Liquid announced the acquisition of STUN.GG, a move designed to bolster its presence in the Southeast Asian market. This strategic expansion incorporates two prominent regional esports properties into the Team Liquid portfolio: Indonesia-based AURA Esports and Philippines-based ECHO Esports. While the financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, the deal represents a significant effort by Team Liquid to scale its operations beyond its existing strongholds in North America, Latin America, and Europe.
The acquisition provides Team Liquid with established competitive rosters in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (ML:BB) scene, specifically within the MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines leagues. As part of the integration, AURA Esports and ECHO Esports will be rebranded as Team Liquid ID and Team Liquid PH, respectively. Beyond competitive talent, the deal grants the organization access to a combined social media following of approximately 10 million users, significantly enhancing its digital footprint in the region.
Leadership from both organizations emphasized that the partnership is built on a shared vision of creating a multi-generational global esports entity. Team Liquid intends to maintain the autonomy of the existing staff to ensure an authentic representation of the brand within the Indonesian and Filipino markets. This acquisition underscores a broader industry trend of established global organizations seeking to capture market share in high-growth mobile esports regions.
