This reduction impacts between 250 and 300 employees. The company's remaining staff totals approximately 1,200 employees.
The ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) recently held a company-wide town hall to address a significant organizational restructuring following a global workforce reduction of approximately 15% to 20%, impacting between 250 and 300 employees. Co-CEOs Craig Levine and Niccolo Maisto framed these layoffs as a necessary step in a broader transformation strategy initiated 18 months prior, aimed at streamlining operations and achieving profitability by early 2025. Leadership indicated that while the current workforce stands at roughly 1,200 employees, there are no immediate plans for further staff reductions.
A primary focus of the restructuring involves the formal integration of acquired assets into a unified EFG ecosystem. The company has officially sunsetted the Vindex brand, fully absorbing its subsidiary, Esports Engine, into the organization. Additionally, the DreamHack Sports Games division, launched in 2019, has been shuttered, with its functions integrated into the broader esports business. These moves are intended to standardize global workflows, consolidate internal departments, and clarify reporting lines across the company’s remaining portfolio, which includes ESL, FACEIT, DreamHack, and Esports Engine.
The company remains committed to its long-term strategic goals, specifically emphasizing its role in delivering the Esports World Cup in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Despite the current lack of profitability, leadership maintains that the organizational changes and the focus on high-impact, industry-defining events will secure EFG’s global leadership position. The town hall served as a platform to communicate these operational shifts to the remaining staff and to emphasize a transition toward a more sustainable, unified business model.
