The Lineage mobile franchise has solidified its position as a dominant force in the global MMORPG market, with its three primary titles—Lineage M, Lineage 2M, and Lineage W—surpassing a combined $7 billion in lifetime revenue as of February 2023. Data provided by Sensor Tower highlights the significant financial performance of these titles, with Lineage M leading the group at $4.23 billion, followed by Lineage 2M at $1.76 billion, and Lineage W at approximately $1 billion.
The analysis reveals a clear strategic shift toward international expansion and demographic diversification. While Lineage M and Lineage 2M maintain higher revenue per download (RPD) metrics of $406 and $410 respectively, reflecting their established, pay-to-win-oriented player bases, Lineage W has emerged as the most globally focused title. Between February 2022 and February 2023, Lineage W captured the largest share of overseas revenue at 37.9%. This global positioning correlates with a younger user demographic; while the franchise historically appeals to players aged 35–44, Lineage W has successfully attracted a younger audience in the 18–24 age bracket.
These findings underscore the effectiveness of NCSOFT’s mobile expansion strategy, which has successfully transitioned a legacy PC intellectual property into a high-earning mobile ecosystem. Although the total revenue for the entire franchise remains higher than the $7 billion figure—as the data excludes other titles like Lineage Red Knights and Lineage 2: Revolution—the performance of these three core games illustrates the enduring commercial viability of the brand. The company continues to leverage this momentum as it prepares for future multi-platform releases.
