The acquisition is designed to establish a physical presence in Seattle for Room 8 Group. This move aligns with the company's broader M&A growth strategy.
Room 8 Group, a global game development and services holding company with Ukrainian roots, has acquired Massive Black, a long-standing art services provider. This strategic acquisition is designed to facilitate Room 8 Group’s expansion into the United States market, specifically establishing a physical presence in Seattle. The deal aligns with the company’s broader merger and acquisition growth strategy, which aims to diversify its service offerings and global footprint.
Founded in 2003, Massive Black brings extensive expertise in animation, illustration, character development, and cinematics, having previously serviced major industry entities such as Blizzard, Google, and Amazon. By integrating Massive Black, Room 8 Group enhances its existing portfolio, which already includes Dragon’s Lake Entertainment and Room 8 Studio. The combined organization maintains a wide international presence with offices in Kyiv, Limassol, London, Montreal, and Tokyo, supporting a diverse range of global clients including Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and CD Projekt RED.
The financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed. In addition to its growth initiatives, Room 8 Group has implemented significant operational changes, including a cessation of hiring in Russia and Belarus. Furthermore, the company has committed to donating its 2022 profits toward humanitarian efforts for refugees and the reconstruction of Ukraine, reflecting its current corporate social responsibility focus amidst its ongoing global expansion.
