The new structure replaces the previous Season Finals and eliminates Championship points. Each split will crown its own champion and serve as a direct qualification path for international events.
Riot Games has announced a significant restructuring of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) for the 2025 season, moving to a three-split format designed to increase competitive stakes. The new structure replaces the previous Season Finals and eliminates championship points, ensuring that each split—Winter, Spring, and Summer—serves as a direct qualification path for international events and crowns its own champion.
The 2025 season introduces distinct competitive formats for each period. The Winter Split, beginning January 18, will utilize the Fearless Draft format throughout its stages. The Spring Split will shift to a seven-week regular season featuring best-of-three matches, with the finalists earning spots at the Mid-Season Invitational. The Summer Split will divide teams into two groups for best-of-three play, culminating in a playoff bracket that determines the region's representatives for the World Championship.
Beyond structural changes, the league is launching a pilot program to bring select matches to local venues, allowing partnered teams to host games in their home countries. Additionally, Riot Games has updated its patch policy, mandating that matches be played on the live patch to maintain competitive integrity, with exceptions only for updates released too close to a scheduled gameweek or during the playoffs. These changes reflect a broader effort to enhance regional engagement and provide a more consistent, high-stakes viewing experience for fans across the EMEA region.
