The company is closing its Burbank, California office as part of a strategic restructuring effort. This move aims to streamline services and improve operational efficiency.
ESL FACEIT Group is undergoing a strategic restructuring that involves the closure of its Burbank, California, office and the consolidation of its North American operations into a single studio facility in Columbus, Ohio. This move is part of a broader organizational effort to streamline services and improve operational efficiency. While the company maintains that most Burbank-based employees will be offered opportunities to relocate or transition to remote work, a small number of staff members will be laid off as a result of the facility closure.
The decision reflects ongoing pressure from the company’s ownership, Savvy Games Group—a subsidiary of the Saudi Arabian government’s Public Investment Fund—to achieve profitability. This latest reduction follows a significant global restructuring in March 2024, which saw a 15% reduction in the company’s workforce, impacting approximately 250 to 300 employees and the shuttering of business units such as Dreamhack Sports Games and the Vindex analytics platform.
The Burbank office, which became part of the ESL FACEIT Group following the acquisition of Vindex in 2023, previously operated as part of the Esports Engine production arm. By centralizing production in Ohio, management aims to enhance the quality and output of its services. This restructuring highlights the continued volatility within the esports sector as major organizations prioritize cost-saving measures and fiscal sustainability over geographic expansion.
