Pokémon GO experienced a significant financial downturn in April 2023, recording its lowest monthly revenue in over five years. According to data provided by AppMagic, the title generated $34.7 million in global in-app revenue during the month. This figure represents a sharp decline from the $58 million earned in February 2023, marking a total revenue drop of approximately 40% over a two-month period.
The revenue contraction is largely attributed to recent strategic changes implemented by developer Niantic regarding the game’s Remote Raid system. By increasing the cost of Remote Raid passes and capping daily participation at five raids per player, the developer aimed to shift user behavior back toward the game's original location-based design. However, these adjustments appear to have negatively impacted player spending, causing the game to fall to the 12th position among the world’s top-grossing mobile titles for April.
Geographically, the United States remains the primary market for the game, contributing 37% of total revenue, followed closely by Japan at 36.6%. Despite this recent slump, the title maintains its status as one of the most successful mobile games in history, having previously surpassed $6 billion in lifetime revenue. While the current performance reflects a challenging period for the franchise, it continues to rank among the elite tier of mobile games alongside titles such as Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile.
