The game generated approximately $110 million in worldwide gross revenue. This marks its fourth-highest earning month since its 2016 launch.
Pokémon GO experienced a significant financial resurgence in August 2019, achieving its highest monthly revenue in three years. The location-based augmented reality game generated approximately $110 million in worldwide gross revenue, marking a 76 percent increase from the previous month and a 44 percent rise compared to August 2018. This performance represents the title's fourth-highest earning month since its 2016 launch, largely attributed to the introduction of Team Rocket antagonists into the game environment.
The United States and Japan served as the primary drivers of this growth, contributing 40 percent and 31 percent of total revenue, respectively. While the United States led in total volume with $44 million, Japan maintained its status as the most effectively monetized market, boasting an all-time average revenue per download of $45 compared to $10 in the United States. Despite the substantial surge in player spending, new user acquisition saw a more modest growth of 10 percent year-over-year, with 5.7 million first-time installations recorded across the App Store and Google Play.
These findings are based on Store Intelligence estimates provided by Sensor Tower, covering global mobile app performance. In the broader mobile gaming landscape, Pokémon GO ranked as the fourth highest-earning title globally for the month, trailing behind Honor of Kings, Fate/Grand Order, and PUBG Mobile. The data highlights a period of sustained engagement for the franchise, which was further bolstered by the concurrent successful launch of the spin-off title Pokémon Masters.
