Pearl Abyss has undertaken significant infrastructure investments to bolster its development capabilities within the South Korean gaming market. In 2021, the company announced a 30 billion won ($26 million) investment to construct a five-story art center in Pyeongchon, Anyang City. This facility, designed to serve as a technologically advanced hub for the studio, features a 1,000-square-meter, column-free motion capture studio equipped with 150 cameras. The primary objective of this project is to enhance the production quality and cinematic realism of the company’s existing intellectual property, including Black Desert, as well as upcoming titles such as Crimson Desert, DokeV, and PLAN 8.
Beyond the art center, Pearl Abyss has focused on expanding its corporate footprint, including the development of a 15-story headquarters in Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town. These capital expenditures reflect the company's long-term commitment to internalizing high-end production resources and maintaining its position as a leading developer in the region.
In a separate strategic shift occurring in 2026, Pearl Abyss divested from CCP Games, the developer of EVE Online. The studio was sold back to its management for $120 million, a figure significantly lower than the estimated $425 million acquisition price paid in 2018. The company characterized this decision as a result of a thorough review of its long-term corporate strategy, concluding that independent operation would be more beneficial for both entities. Despite the sale, the two companies have indicated a potential for future cooperation, marking a transition in Pearl Abyss’s portfolio management as it refines its focus on core development priorities.
