Blizzard Entertainment and the ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) have announced that the inaugural Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) World Finals will take place at DreamHack Stockholm in Sweden from November 22–24, 2024. This event represents a significant milestone for the title, as it marks the first major in-person European tournament for Overwatch since 2018. The competition will feature eight of the world’s top teams vying for the title of the first-ever OWCS Champion.
The selection of Stockholm as the host city follows a period of structural transition for the game's competitive ecosystem. EFG assumed control of Overwatch esports at the start of 2024, following the dissolution of the franchised Overwatch League. The decision to host the finals in Europe highlights a strategic effort to engage the regional player base and capitalize on the momentum of the new open-circuit format. Qualification for the finals is tied to Stage 4 open qualifiers on the FACEIT platform, which are scheduled to begin in North America and the EMEA region on September 20.
The event is expected to draw significant viewership and attendance, building on the success of previous EFG-managed tournaments. The recent OWCS Major at DreamHack Dallas serves as a performance benchmark, having attracted over 130,000 peak concurrent viewers and an on-site festival crowd exceeding 55,000 attendees. By integrating the World Finals into the broader DreamHack festival experience, organizers aim to leverage existing event infrastructure and fan engagement activities to bolster the visibility of the Overwatch 2 competitive scene.
