The company generated $85 million in worldwide gross revenue across the Apple App Store and Google Play. This is up from $80 million in Q1 2018.
Nintendo’s mobile gaming division experienced a period of moderate growth in the first quarter of 2019, generating approximately $85 million in worldwide gross revenue across the Apple App Store and Google Play. This figure represents a 6 percent year-over-year increase compared to the $80 million earned in the first quarter of 2018, marking the company’s third-best quarterly performance since its entry into the mobile market in 2016. The data, derived from Sensor Tower Store Intelligence, highlights a mixed performance across the publisher's portfolio, where the inclusion of newer titles helped offset significant declines in legacy game revenue.
Individual title performance varied considerably during the quarter. Fire Emblem Heroes remained the primary revenue driver, contributing $46.6 million, despite a 30 percent year-over-year decline. Dragalia Lost, while experiencing a 55 percent quarter-over-quarter revenue drop, played a critical role in preventing an overall year-over-year decline for the company. Conversely, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp saw a resurgence, with revenue climbing 30 percent year-over-year to $12.9 million. Super Mario Run continued to represent a minor portion of total earnings, accounting for only 3 percent of quarterly mobile revenue at $2.3 million.
Looking ahead, the company’s mobile strategy remains focused on leveraging established intellectual property to drive future growth. With the anticipated releases of Dr. Mario World and Mario Kart Tour scheduled for later in 2019, expectations remain high for these titles to bolster revenue in the third and fourth quarters. These upcoming launches are viewed as essential components for sustaining the publisher's momentum in the competitive mobile gaming landscape.
