The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for a global release on June 5, 2025, with a retail price point of $450, £396, or €470. The console launch will be supported by the release of an open-world title, Mario Kart World, which will be available as a standalone game or as part of a hardware bundle. This release marks a significant hardware iteration for the platform, introducing several technical upgrades including 256GB of internal storage, 4K resolution support in docked mode, 3D audio, and a larger display.
Hardware enhancements extend to the controller and interface capabilities, featuring magnet connections, larger buttons, an additional USB-C port, and a built-in microphone. The system introduces new social and functional software, such as a GameChat feature that supports camera integration for Zoom-style communication and gameplay mechanics. Additionally, the console includes a Game Share feature, allowing users to share specific titles with local players using a single copy of the software.
The platform will support a robust library of both new and legacy content. Existing Switch 1 titles, including major franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid Prime, will receive visual and performance upgrades for the new hardware, accessible to current owners for a fee. The subscription service, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, will expand to include a library of GameCube titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and F-Zero GX. Furthermore, the console will host a wide array of third-party support, ranging from established franchises like Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6 to exclusive partnerships, including a future title from FromSoftware.
