Shah previously served as the product and operations lead for Rocket League Esports.
Key Change. Murty Shah is now a product manager for the core Rocket League game at Psyonix/Epic Games.
Murty Shah, a long-standing leader in the Rocket League esports ecosystem, has transitioned from his role as product and operations lead for Rocket League Esports to a new position as product manager for the game itself at Psyonix and its parent company, Epic Games. This move marks a significant shift in his professional focus, moving from the management of competitive tournaments to the direct development and future strategy of the core game title.
Shah’s departure concludes an eight-year tenure dedicated to the growth of Rocket League’s competitive scene. During his time with the organization, which began in 2017, he held various operational and product-focused roles, including esports operations manager. His contributions were instrumental in the development and redesign of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) and the expansion of the game’s professional fanbase.
The transition, announced in September 2023, involves a relocation to Los Angeles to support his new responsibilities. While Shah has stepped away from his leadership duties within the esports division, he remains within the broader Psyonix and Epic Games structure. No immediate successor for his former esports leadership role has been named. This change reflects a broader trend of internal talent mobility within game publishing companies, where experienced personnel transition from esports operations into core product development to leverage their deep understanding of community engagement and player behavior.
