Create free accounthello and welcome to pocket gamer dr. zeas youtube channel I'm done Jordan and this is our monetization playlist so the game are looking at that agency it's a horse game and often not okay we often look out so this game is called Project finish horse racing and the reason it's interesting is it's kind of a one-man band as kind of created it so it kind of has the gameplay that you'd expect from a horse game we don't really pin the game played today and but what's interesting is the game came out they actually guy who developed it in Cummings was a long term long time developer you worked EA creates rich with Madame serious wanting zingo so he knows industry even those free to play games he thought he'd do something like a little bit niche but the game came out and he realized he didn't really understand how to market a game and how to get a game out there to an audience so he looked to work with the publisher so the game was out in the app store
often publishers say they want to work with games before they release because idiot there you have the more opportunity to him and work on things that you can cover only improve things but this game was app so there wasn't that wasn't the option so you worked with a company called tilting point who kind of position themselves as kind of a next-generation mobile publish up so they work very closely with developers adding particularly things like user acquisition and analytics and how you deal with analytics and how you feed that back into the game retention man'll station all that kind of stuff so we're looking a bit for monetization today and so we can look here there's off some obvious things so get to special say this is the hard currency so that's when you know it's all fairly standard horseshoes we both horseshoes we use horses in the game also bucks so bucks again I mean also the bottom you see where there's a watch to earn and things are we can watch a video to get some currency we press on that okay so we go 30 seconds of watching WM so the reason it's kind of lonely worth every quick look at it is local rewarded video ads
or a big thing have been for the last year or so really in what we would call indirect monetization so people in games want to get some currency so often people don't want to spend money or it's the first stage to spending monies giving them a lot of kind of free resources cuz then you start using the resources in a way and then you understand the value of using resources and then you then can see why you're spending money off of this difficult people to go spend ten bucks how did that how did I earn ten bucks of reward or 11 bucks rewarding the game most you want the rewards to be seen as more than the money so this is a casino game whether that's appropriate for this one don't know but I've owned one horseshoe so there we go set not nor massive massive thing so i could pay a penny earned i sent i got one i could pay five dollars and get 100 there we go so not a massive increase in value there but there we go am i can connect to facebook we see their own 25 for to do so a bit
more so it's that's to get my master actually suits in 25 is a cool that's that's about dollars for center k'hal she so um that's kind of on the monetization things you also see there's a buck sale going on so sales are good so quite sure where the sailors that looks like a standard monetization move anyway this tells us there's some sort of limited edition thing that's good for driving people back so we're going to actual what we do in the game this is more kind of a kind of a hub system something to see you play races obviously um I can play this circuit race from winton some bucks obviously the point is everything I'm very early in the game and just I it's really really showing this so go to my stable this is my horse what do i do what my spending the money on this is important because obviously you want to actually have giving you this value so I can upgrade my harness I've got red my bride like that my saddle up read my stirrups
all these things so we can see I've got just over 28,000 second but just an upgrade their that way again obviously she's going to level 1 to level 3 and what else could be operating run out of money already so go back here so I'm gonna operate the shoes now that money so we can see my stan has gone up and my finish has gone up see also obviously horse racing game online steak so I can it's a different event it's a premier race as well but I need telling me my acceleration isn't good enough to enter that one so so we can see even my speed not good enough so I kind of spend the money on the wrong thing so that's not so very good at means oh I spent the money on your one thing okay um now the reason we're kind of talking the looking at the monetization because that's kind of held how the game obviously makes money but what's interesting with the deal with tilting point was it came in the game was already out there and they started spending some advertising money user
acquisition and and they saw some pretty staggering results really so it was a good call game that just couldn't find Nora it wasn't like a game that had been downloaded lots of times when people weren't playing or paying in it just a game hadn't found its audience so they need downloads were increased by over a thousand percent and that also drove organic install so often if you paying for kind of installs and if it's a good game people go have you played this in your people who like called facing us pose an interesting thing was the use a petition campaign to actually run during the horse racing season in the US so things like the triple crown in the US so that it can Kentucky Derby these are the kind of races in the start mate so that was in the public consciousness so you're spending money that horse writing game when people who cared about horse racing we're carry about horse racing so that also encourages people you know to play this game because they're into the in the horse racing season so you're getting them at the right time and then because there's these kind of knew this is this is kind of a can't show it here
because I've already had it there but it's like a baby photo so every time you coming in there's a daily bonus so that's a very good way of driving most free play games we've had this now that every time you go into the game you get a reward encouraging to come back so actually grew its daily retention by almost two thousand percent an important bit is obviously from a very low base but revenue grew 30 x 32 times so you there's a there's nothing particularly under standard about a lot this month elation is system is in tears like it the mystery crate as well from like it's like a more like am I makes me kind of Creighton and chest and stuffing in clash Royale things this is just a kind of participation me if I finish it almost finish a race I might get something if I win a race I'm gonna get more so you can see there's other ways of interacting with the game getting the things i need probably in this case will be resources I bucks I need to upgrade the horse and get into the into the progress in the game that's all about this what this spending money and resources in the game is to get a better horse I rode your horse let's quickly do a horse race I'm pretty went
wonderful let me do it he also not my prepared okay let's play the game plays very simple so to start the race you could like kind of tap options have you seen in coming golf games like like the wood so I'm just kind of tapping obviously underlying how well they're doing this is the strength of my horse in terms of have I upgraded in ball the right bridles and obviously when the waters again buy more horses I'm not going to win this one so the music and a little bit of doing something is not just a little play so I could leave second I lost okay it's the kind of thing where I had to win to get away but I still get a little bit yeah okay tough loss watch of quick videos or games in the video driving video so I can get back in and then and play so that's just quickly round at the monetization of photo finish horse racing and what's interesting is this game kind of came out and didn't have this level of
monetization in there and some didn't have the kind of audience and the user acquisition going on so it's kind of interesting that often we say games need to have a look on stuff in before they go out after it's better if they do have that it's easier but even when games are released and don't have this kind of stuff in you can kind of harder but you can retrofit them and still be successful so I'm watching and that was our monetization playlist to do a lot of this analysis or free play mobile games so if you subscribe you won't miss anything
Photo Finish Horse Racing serves as a case study for the efficacy of post-launch publishing partnerships in the mobile gaming industry. Developed by a veteran industry professional, the game initially struggled to find an audience despite its polished mechanics. By partnering with Tilting Point, the developer successfully retrofitted the game with advanced analytics, user acquisition strategies, and refined monetization systems, demonstrating that even titles released without a comprehensive launch strategy can achieve significant commercial growth through targeted intervention.
The monetization model employs a standard free-to-play framework, utilizing dual currencies—horseshoe tokens and bucks—to facilitate gear upgrades and race entry. The game integrates rewarded video advertisements as a primary indirect monetization tool, allowing players to earn resources by watching short clips. This approach serves as an entry point for non-paying users, familiarizing them with the value of in-game assets before transitioning them toward potential microtransactions. Additional engagement drivers include daily login bonuses, limited-time sales, and progression-based reward crates, all designed to improve player retention and encourage consistent interaction with the game’s stable management and racing loops.
The impact of this strategic partnership was substantial. By aligning user acquisition campaigns with the real-world US horse racing season, the publisher increased total downloads by over 1,000 percent. This influx of new players, combined with improved retention mechanics, resulted in a nearly 2,000 percent increase in daily retention and a 32-fold increase in total revenue. These findings underscore the importance of data-driven marketing and the potential for developers to revitalize underperforming titles by integrating sophisticated monetization and acquisition frameworks after the initial release.
