The launch performance of miHoYo’s turn-based RPG, Honkai: Star Rail, demonstrates significant commercial success, surpassing the initial mobile revenue generated by the developer’s previous flagship title, Genshin Impact. Data provided by AppMagic indicates that Honkai: Star Rail earned $6.3 million in mobile revenue during its first 24 hours of availability, compared to the approximately $4.6 million generated by Genshin Impact during its own launch window in 2020.
In the six days following its global release on April 26, 2023, Honkai: Star Rail accumulated over $32 million in mobile revenue. Geographic distribution of this spending is led by China, which accounts for 39% of total revenue, followed by Japan at 22%, the United States at 15%, and South Korea at 6%. The title also achieved strong engagement metrics, bolstered by over 30 million pre-registrations and 20 million global downloads, allowing it to reach the top of the iOS game download charts in numerous international markets.
While these figures establish Honkai: Star Rail as a major commercial hit for miHoYo, the long-term trajectory remains to be seen. Genshin Impact has maintained a position as one of the highest-grossing mobile titles in history, with lifetime player spending exceeding $4 billion. Despite the strong start for the new release, the data suggests that while Honkai: Star Rail has secured a successful market entry, its ability to match the sustained, multi-year financial performance of its predecessor is not yet determined.
