Total player spending across Harry Potter-themed mobile games has surpassed $1 billion, driven by a diverse portfolio of titles. Data provided by Sensor Tower indicates that the RPG Hogwarts Mystery, developed by Jam City, remains the highest-grossing title in the franchise with over $400 million in revenue since its April 2018 launch. NetEase’s Magic Awakened follows closely with $358 million, while Zynga’s Puzzles & Spells and the now-defunct Wizards Unite have generated $218 million and $39.6 million, respectively.
Geographically, the United States leads global player spending with $374.8 million, representing 36.6% of the total. China follows with $324.3 million, a figure derived exclusively from iOS data due to the absence of Google Play in the region. Germany ranks third, contributing 5% of total revenue. In terms of platform distribution, the Apple App Store accounts for 66.6% of total revenue, while Google Play accounts for 54% of the 156 million total downloads recorded across the franchise.
Magic Awakened has demonstrated significant momentum, emerging as the highest-grossing mobile title based on a book during the first nine months of 2022. With 90% of its revenue currently originating from China, the title is positioned to potentially overtake Hogwarts Mystery as the franchise's top earner. These findings highlight the sustained commercial viability of the Harry Potter intellectual property within the mobile gaming sector, despite the varying performance of individual titles and the closure of specific AR-based projects.
