The German Computer Game Award 2024 (Deutscher Computerspielpreis) recognized the significant contributions of Hamburg-based studios to the national gaming landscape. Organized by the German Federal Republic and the Game Association, the event serves as a premier platform for celebrating excellence in game development across Germany. The 2024 edition featured fifteen distinct categories with a total prize pool of 800,000 euros, highlighting the industry's commitment to fostering innovation and creative talent.
Four Hamburg studios secured awards, demonstrating the region's strong presence in the domestic market. Rockfish Games received the prestigious Best German Game award for their space shooter, EVERSPACE 2, which was granted 100,000 euros. Symmetry Break Studio earned the Young Talent Best Prototype award for their narrative 2D sci-fi adventure, Misgiven, receiving 50,000 euros. Additionally, Fox-Assembly was honored with the Best Innovation and Technology award for their interactive installation, Marble Maze, while Tivola Games won the Best Mobile Game category for their title, Cat Rescue Story. Both of the latter winners were awarded 40,000 euros each.
The success of these studios underscores the effectiveness of local support structures, such as the Games Lift Incubator and various prototype funding programs, which have previously supported several of the winning teams. By providing financial backing and mentorship, these initiatives continue to cultivate a robust ecosystem for developers in Hamburg. The recognition at this national level reinforces the city's status as a vital hub for both established game studios and emerging talent within the German gaming industry.
