Create free accounthello and welcome to Pocket Gamer Izzy's youtube channel I'm John Jordan and this is our first time user experience so the stirring music and the splash room will give you the clue that we have playing total war battles colon or the colors want their kingdom so it's new game from the crate and from Creative Assembly owned by sega and let's start the game chillin let's see how we get on this is very PC isn't it me so so total war is is is a kind of well known peace he came franchise which to be fair to create with every they have done some mobile voters before but um this is not really from a mobile experience I've read and accept the latest terms of the
blood-bond well I mean yeah just odd odd odd that they'll go through definite process ops ii sir it is a fairly hardcore game that he's yeah but it kind of it quite interesting I think that companies who are not doing mobile all the time or not releasing multiple kind of games for mobile kind of forget a little bit about the mobile is it's just about getting into a game very quickly you know you look at coming like supercell of you didn't make this kind of level of hardcore game but the game just low straight away and this isn't none no friction at all in it anyway so there we go i can't really read this text but there's an untimely death of my father and brother I control the region there we go dams broke it isn't it graphically looks very nice select the water so this particular batch of water obviously we can see this is kind of
based on a PC franchise select the landscape tab select damn build damn sowing seeds can use up to different types of resources some sort of metal and some sort of wood as then take seven seconds so we're going to be at least seen out in a free-to-play game experience it's going to be time involved it's going to be resources involved no surprise that I guess it down the hall the water Albert by rolling they should raise the rain I discover interesting and can I select the terrain I think we're going to raise the train I think we're going to spend some barrels and some time okay so off that goes interesting that we haven't been given the opportunity to use hard currency to speed that up but we often go through a fairly tap here tutorial select town tab it's flashing there we go so obviously a lot
of stuff is we can't access because we're going on through tutorials oh here we go we've got to get the metal and the wood and the and the time but again this is kinda interesting on a PC screen this would be big and you'd see the nice kind of like stained glass window thing they've done behind them the resources would kind of make sense on a mobile device it just doesn't make sense there's kind of lines behind it just just make it look confusing I think that's the thing that pc developers do really struggle with on mobile just nothing is they just have this detail that they really knock on tape okay so go workers offer some gold speeding along so okay so I'm gonna now we are going to go into speeding stuff up so we can see here flashing away select complete that's been for gold and obvi there's no option there's been the gold
and click the workers tap on this chap if he goes collective work that hmm castle so we can see at the bottom left there I have 10 work 10 of 116 of the other quite others unassigned workers maximize select maximize where is maximized there I hidden it with my big fat face obviously ditional information 2050 workers go I was maximizing the the window so need a blacksmith and it for workforce okays a tutorial in the sense that I'm just tapping but equally it's bit more in depth than may tutorials have to say the game does look very nice
not massive size wise I think about 350 Meg so on this the woodcutters going to go off we've using museum where he's going to go off and cut something select the fella icon select the oak trees select complete I said it'll release gave me very quickly into using mark my goal how much God my god i'm not that much calmer now select selecting that fell select pine tree so that the pine trees you use gold let's use me yeah let's use mass collection yeah that's what I would do I probably use mass effect in here select and hold that's confusing okay okay that's fine woodcutter or farm and can even be used on the castle okay well that's very useful later than one I think we're going to do some farming now so if we look at the top of the screen in the
middle of the screen at the top we have the gold that we've been using the speed stuff up we have this this is a metal or something when each barrel and then I don't know what the that's pretty metal as well and in the wood we can restore the river by lowering tray next the lake so I'm going this is reverse what we did before I quite like this terrain stuff is a bit em compete in one you ask isn't it populace was aware I was a specially oh wow so that's good actually feel stop decaying okay cameras won't help much input where the camera when its life so Corey's for stone so that's all that till seven hundred fifty years lots of other things gold prospect complete grass also
set dig site that discipline chance this is the dig site i guess i'm going to dig in their dicks hun x going on there ok that's the standard free-to-play model what's this thing here bandits classes no we're going to do some battling now obviously total war clues in the name fruit soldiers are going to build barracks seven-second is very popular x naught but interesting it doesn't give me the option to use gold there so i was using gold to speed up resource gathering but not for building choosy and not for building but i wonder we must assign someone to unix-like not last week really it's over TV I luminaria out for this menu appear now again this seems to be very PC like
Church Harry artifact someone's the Holy toenail expect that game too controversial build can't speed it up I'm going put collect the artifact choose not to fact spear of destiny there are lots of Longinus order so really we're kind of seeing you see how the free-to-play kind of meta game besides working or eat through the sink the complexity of what's going on in the Army set up obviously that's what the whole franchise which is done probably hundreds of millions of dollars of RIT has 111 e on different platforms works and I'm sure this is very scaled down
but equally I wonder the churn rate of this game I think will be quite high for like day one retention or thurs in de voluntad will be quite low because i'm clearing ruins as well it's kind of a building process and now i'm gonna build a road I hate but I think games we build roads really it's a tedious we can see we have to build a bridge as well let's build the road to the army can go down ok so I lot better go too much more we can kind of see where we're going with this this tutorial so I guess is you can gather I think this is a slightly this this tutorial could be streamlined nothing the entire game it could be um clearly chose its PC roots and is that a bad thing no law school play PC games and not some piece of games are
tremendously successful but it doesn't mean know is when you're on the when you're on the mobile platform is your very accessible and as soon as you have this kind of pc like framework around it then immediately you're going to people are going to download the game it's going to be a bit big to download I don't think is particularly big as I say but since you get into this if you haven't played pc games at all with a lot of mobile gamers one of them that's very complex in assets to say care about this no you know total war as a franchise is very well known and Ferrigno's a pc franchise so i guess their view is people you know they can actually mobile is good for them because they can actually appeal to a wider audience than they would otherwise get any with most that audience don't hang around they will kind of get a word in the english in the medium and long term a bigger audience than they otherwise would get
on pc because just mobile is it is a more broad audience particles of tablets and poly because just ever has a mobile phone so that we interesting and we certainly interesting to see how the game works in that kind of medium term phase I don't think it's a game that will get you know tens of millions of downloads that phase but it's a game that will probably have its higher attention so it's like day 7 all day 30 retention will be probably not rate not not bad and it's motivation on its player base so it's kind of like average revenue per per player will be will be high because partly because that that play rate will be small but Paula cos is a pc game and those players who kind of going to stick with it for a week for a month are going to be very engaged in it and I'll say in a sense it looks really nice and most mobile games are a bit more accessible than this so so it is in
this sense it's going in that inverse way it's going to stand out more than than other games I guess the interesting thing will be you know mobile games is a global market and obviously this kind of strategy game this kind of pc game thing works is very popular in places like China maybe it's a list and career certainly in Eastern Europe Russia places like that so will that will will this game do better in those places on mobile they'll be interesting to see and we will be looking at that so on Pocket Gamer up is on our YouTube channel we do different type that things we do offer some user experience which is what this is we do our kind of monetize oh we do other kind of odds and ends so don't forget to subscribe so we do spend a lot of time playing female games and giving our analysis and not views on them and hopefully if you subscribe you'll find some games that you know you might enjoy and you can see that you're
enjoying you can download it and play them so if you subscribe you don't you don't miss out on those my thanks for watching this one it's been good to have your company and we'll see you again hopefully before too long lots of games to play
Total War Battles: KINGDOM serves as a case study in the challenges of adapting a hardcore PC strategy franchise for the mobile market. The game, developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega, maintains the visual fidelity and complex mechanics characteristic of its PC lineage. However, the transition to mobile reveals significant friction in the user experience, particularly regarding interface design and tutorial pacing. The game utilizes a standard free-to-play model, incorporating resource management, time-gated construction, and hard currency for speeding up tasks, though the implementation of these mechanics often feels cluttered on smaller screens.
The analysis highlights a disconnect between the game’s depth and the expectations of mobile players. While the title offers high-quality graphics and a sophisticated meta-game, the tutorial process is lengthy and overly prescriptive, which may negatively impact day-one retention. The reliance on PC-centric design frameworks—such as complex menus and tedious infrastructure tasks like road building—creates a barrier to accessibility for casual mobile users. Despite these hurdles, the game is positioned to appeal to a dedicated, core audience rather than a mass-market casual demographic.
Ultimately, the game’s success likely hinges on its ability to cultivate a highly engaged player base that values depth over immediate accessibility. While it may struggle with broad appeal, the title is expected to demonstrate strong long-term retention and high average revenue per user among its core demographic. The analysis suggests that the game may find particular success in global markets where hardcore strategy titles have historically performed well, such as Eastern Europe and parts of Asia, effectively leveraging the Total War brand to capture a segment of the mobile audience that is underserved by more simplified, casual titles.
