London-based esports organization Fnatic has entered into a strategic partnership and investment agreement with Hivemind Capital, a crypto asset management firm founded by former Citibank executive Matt Zhang. The collaboration aims to bolster Fnatic’s capabilities in the Web3 and blockchain sectors, specifically focusing on the native development and scaling of decentralized applications. While the financial terms and duration of the deal remain undisclosed, the investment round included participation from several other entities, including GuildFi, IndiGG, Paribu Ventures, Polygon, Presto Labs, Trinito, and WW Ventures.
This partnership serves to strengthen Fnatic’s existing portfolio of blockchain-related initiatives, which includes a $13.3 million partnership with Crypto.com and a collaboration with Guild of Guardians. By integrating Hivemind Capital’s expertise, Fnatic intends to streamline its ability to secure future partnerships within the crypto space. The organization continues to maintain a diverse commercial footprint, with existing sponsorships from brands such as BMW, L’Oréal Men Expert, and Hisense, while operating competitive teams across major titles including League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Valorant.
The move underscores a broader industry trend of esports organizations seeking to monetize digital assets and integrate Web3 infrastructure into their performance and fan engagement models. Beyond its competitive operations, Fnatic continues to leverage its "High-Performance Unit," a specialized infrastructure designed to support professional players through fitness, wellness, and performance coaching. This latest capital injection positions the organization to further expand its technological reach while maintaining its established presence in the global esports ecosystem.
