EXCEL Promotes Tim Reichert to CEO

EXCEL Esports announced a significant leadership transition in January 2023, appointing Tim Reichert as the organization's new CEO. Reichert, who previously served as the company’s chief operating officer and esports director, succeeds Wouter Sleijffers. Following his three-year tenure as CEO, Sleijffers transitioned into a strategic advisory role for the company's board. Additionally, the organization promoted Rosenbelle Ganan to director of operations and legal affairs, expanding her responsibilities across the firm’s London and German operations.

The leadership change occurs amidst a challenging economic climate for the global esports industry. In his inaugural remarks as CEO, Reichert acknowledged the sector's ongoing difficulties but expressed confidence in the organization's ability to identify growth opportunities through strategic adaptation and team dedication.

Reichert brings extensive industry experience to the role, having co-founded the prominent organization SK Gaming in 1997 and served as managing director of FC Schalke 04 Esports. His background includes overseeing the sale of a League of Legends European Championship franchise slot for $31.5 million in 2021. Ganan also brings significant experience to the leadership team, having previously held senior finance and legal roles at Fnatic. This restructuring reflects a broader effort by the London-based organization to navigate market volatility while maintaining its competitive standing in the European esports landscape.
