Embracer Group’s financial results for the first fiscal quarter of 2023, ending June 30, demonstrate significant year-over-year growth alongside the implementation of a major corporate restructuring program. The company reported net sales of SEK 10.45 billion ($955.3 million), representing a 47% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Net profit reached SEK 2.25 billion ($205.9 million), a notable turnaround from the net loss of SEK 182 million recorded in the prior-year quarter.
The PC and console segment served as the primary growth engine, with revenue rising 74% to $365.5 million, largely driven by the successful launches of Dead Island 2 and Remnant II. The Entertainment & Services segment also saw substantial expansion, growing 173% to $167.5 million. Conversely, the mobile gaming segment experienced a slight decline of 3%, with 312 million monthly active users and a user acquisition spend of $58.6 million. Back catalog titles, including Deep Rock Galactic and Borderlands 3, remained vital, contributing nearly 40% of the PC and console segment's total revenue.
Management continues to prioritize a restructuring initiative aimed at reducing net debt from SEK 16.75 billion to at least SEK 8 billion by March 31, 2024. This process involves the closure of specific studios and projects, resulting in workforce reductions. Despite these challenges, the company maintains a robust development pipeline, with 215 titles currently in production for PC and consoles. As of the end of June, the organization employed 16,605 people, including over 11,000 game developers, as it prepares for upcoming releases such as Payday 3 and Homeworld 3.
