Streamers represented by X1 Talent, a division of X1 Entertainment Group, allege non-payment for work performed.
Content creators are publicly alleging that the British Columbia-based, publicly traded X1 Entertainment Group has failed to pay thousands of dollars owed for completed brand activations. The dispute centers on the company’s talent division, X1 Talent, which was acquired in 2022 and subsequently shuttered in early 2023. Affected streamers, including Marcel “MDee14” Dee and Brandon “iamBrandon” Stennis, report that payments were withheld following the division's closure, despite prior assurances that obligations would be settled. Stennis specifically noted an outstanding balance of approximately $14,600 for a year-long campaign.
Internal communications suggest that the parent company, X1 Entertainment Group, unilaterally decided to hold payouts, leaving the talent agency staff without guidance or the ability to fulfill contractual obligations. While representatives from the agency have acknowledged the situation and directed creators to board member Latika Prasad for further information, the company’s leadership, including CEO Mark Elfenbein, has remained unresponsive to both the creators and media inquiries.
The payment delays appear to be symptomatic of broader financial instability within the organization. Financial filings from late 2022 and early 2023 indicate that auditors have expressed doubt regarding the company’s ability to continue as a going concern. With a reported net loss of $1.74 million CAD for the period ending November 30, 2022, and limited cash on hand, the company faces significant scrutiny. These financial struggles persist despite the company’s recent public announcements regarding new brand partnerships for its talent roster, creating a disconnect between its public-facing business activity and its internal operational capacity.
