Summary

The German Games Industry Association (BIU) released its inaugural guide, titled A Guide to the German Games Industry, in February 2017 to promote Germany as a premier destination for international investment and business expansion. The 48-page English-language publication serves as a strategic resource for global investors and companies seeking to establish or grow subsidiaries within the German market. By providing a comprehensive overview of the domestic landscape, the association aims to increase the visibility of German developers and industry stakeholders on the international stage.

The guide covers a broad spectrum of the industry, including detailed data on the German gaming market, insights into esports clubs, and information regarding key industry events like gamescom. It also highlights the infrastructure supporting the sector, such as training institutes and expert networks. To provide practical industry perspectives, the publication features guest contributions from prominent figures at Black Forest Games, Ubisoft Blue Byte, InnoGames, and KING Art.

Developed in collaboration with Computec Media, the guide was designed for distribution at major international industry gatherings, specifically Game Connection America and PAX East in early 2017. The BIU, which represents 26 members accounting for over 85 percent of the German market, utilizes this initiative to act as an expert partner for international media and institutional stakeholders. By consolidating market intelligence and professional contacts, the association seeks to lower barriers to entry for foreign entities and foster a more robust, globally connected German games ecosystem.
