Market Leader. ARC Raiders remained the top-selling title across Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam for the third consecutive month.
The January 2026 industry analysis highlights the continued market dominance of ARC Raiders, which secured the top position for both revenue and volume on Steam for the third consecutive month. During January, the title sold 1.5 million copies on Steam and 1.7 million on consoles, contributing to a lifetime performance of 15 million units sold and $500 million in gross revenue. The game reached 10 million monthly active users, reflecting an 8% increase over December, and demonstrated strong wishlist conversion rates, with 27.2% of November 2025 wishlisters purchasing the game as of early February 2026.
Beyond AAA titles, the report identifies a sustained trend of success for low-priced, social-driven cooperative games. Three titles—PEAK, R.E.P.O., and RV There Yet?—collectively generated nearly $300 million from 44 million units sold since their 2025 launches, underscoring the commercial viability of high-volume, co-op-focused independent games. Additionally, StarRupture emerged as a notable early-access success in January, moving 852,000 units and generating $12 million in revenue, aided by a strategic cross-promotion campaign involving the developer’s previous title, Green Hell.
The analysis also addresses recent market volatility regarding generative AI, specifically dismissing the perceived threat of Google Genie to the gaming industry. The assessment concludes that such technology lacks the fundamental mechanical logic, object permanence, and intentionality required for game development, characterizing it as a speculative venture capital bubble rather than a viable production tool. The report emphasizes that while generative AI may assist in minor administrative tasks, it cannot replace the creative human effort necessary to produce engaging, rule-based gaming experiences.
