Ubisoft’s first-half earnings for fiscal year 2020-21 demonstrate strong financial outperformance, characterized by record profitability and significant growth in digital and back-catalog net bookings. The company reported net bookings of €754.7 million, a 14.2% increase over the same period in the previous fiscal year. This growth was primarily driven by the sustained appeal of a diversified portfolio of franchises and live services, with digital net bookings rising 22% to account for 86.8% of the total. Back-catalog performance was particularly robust, surging 39.4% to reach €713.1 million.
The company’s financial success during this period was supported by high player engagement, with 100 million unique active players across PC and console platforms. Key franchises, including Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and Just Dance, showed strong year-on-year growth in engagement and consumer spending. Despite these gains, Ubisoft updated its full-year 2020-21 targets to reflect the strategic decision to delay the release of Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine to the 2021-22 fiscal year, a move necessitated by production challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The updated guidance projects full-year net bookings between €2,200 million and €2,350 million, with non-IFRS operating income expected to fall between €420 million and €520 million. Beyond financial results, the company emphasized its commitment to organizational transformation, citing the implementation of anti-harassment training and the creation of a Content Review Committee as part of a broader effort to foster a more inclusive workplace culture. Additionally, the launch of Ubisoft Connect and expanded partnerships with platforms like Amazon Luna highlight a strategic focus on cross-platform accessibility and direct-to-player engagement.
