Create free account[Music] [Music] excellent okay so what is this mobile gaming thing you know that's that's really what we're here today to talk about we're really here to talk about what has been known as or what's called curly high fidelity gaming and mobile and what that's really done to the industry what that's done to our outlook on the industry and what that does to us every day when we play our games so what we're gonna do at first is let everybody kind of introduce themselves let you know where they're from and why they're here and then based on that we'll kind of jump in and we'll have some Q&A at the end so everybody has time to talk and ask any questions sound good cool
well let's just start up to be at the beginning over there Oh Jay why don't you introduce yourself say while you're here what you do and you know why you like mobile games sure so my name is Oh Jay I love mobile games because I'm literally a mobile youtuber with the million subscribers and I'm just here to show you guys my perspective and what makes a great mobile game from my eyes outside of a developer's perspective I'm a run game inside our biggest game so far is guns of boom it's a pump our first first-person shooter five minute sessions things like that I'm going to talk about eSports leaks and just our perception on how we grow mobile eSports to be as big as PC has been wobbly I'm the head of eSports for super evil Megacorp we make the title vainglory it's our only title right now but you know perhaps some things to come in the future here to talk about you sports obviously
give some perspective on the industry from our start up a point of view as well as other business development initiatives but super passionate about mobile gaming because it is the biggest markets out there and happy to tackle it well everyone Lauren's Cove from next on em next item is the western mobile business arm for an excellent group and we are a publisher of game called dominations which is a history themed strategy game and mobile games is really exciting for me just because it's the largest you know sort of user base that we can sort think about when we think about getting games in front of people and now as these devices become more and more powerful I think I'm just like really excited about the type of gaming experiences we can provide to users going forward from tensing games I'm leading the publishing effort in the West for toys and games we made a lot of high fidelity games in the East and now we're thinking about how to bring them to the west and also run these sports
event around them Alex research founder of super VIP machine and basically I've been in gaming since the advent of the first gen iOS store and kind of tracked the progression up to these more high fidelity gaming experiences and with my latest company super VIP machine we're trying to you know our basic thesis is around creating high fidelity mobile games around synchronous multiplayer excellent cool so we got a pretty impressive panel here right we should get some good information out right all right good so the next one again this is another easy softball one and we'll this will kind of start off then why don't you tell us what games are playing now and why yeah I mean you're you're a developer what gave me playing besides your own games so I'm playing a decent bit of fortnight and pub G on mobile as well obviously just kind of following some of the industry trends but figuring out what games actually translate well
from other platforms to mobile it's pretty important since I do believe the future of gaming is very much cross-platform across the board so games that bring something the mobile device I really want to test them out especially if they had their home or their start on console or PC pretty enjoyable I think I mean pub G in my opinion is definitely a little bit more favorable on mobile because fortnight does have the building complexity but just the accessibility of the games is quite promising great that's great about you Oh Jay you're the you're the pro gamer up here what are you playing man well obviously I play clash roll every single day but that's my bread and butter so that's that's like if Ben said he plays vainglory so that's not a fair answer I've been playing a little bit of pub Jean just because like you said it translates a lot better compared to some other Africa yes games but my favorite right now aside from clash Royale is arena valor just because of the controls for everything and just like I planed playing a lot of MOBA games all my life I probably put over 10,000 hours in the
DotA so it's just something that works really well on a phone especially because 10 years ago you couldn't play do it on a phone you could barely play snakes on your Nokia if you guys know what I mean it's so crazy that we can do that now yeah anybody playing ok first of all who's not playing fortnight or pub G up here exactly how about you out there anybody not playing fortnight or pub G out in the audience why aren't you playing okay well that's fair that's fair an honest man that's okay that props to you for for raising your hand but but okay you said something there the moba you know MOBAs and it's everybody knows what a MOBA is right yeah kind of games put gameplay that really started in the east and has really been coming over in the West and frankly the matriculation of MOBAs to the West is really one of the big notions we're talking about today because those MOBA games were the
first big gigabyte games high fidelity games games that were social games that pulled people in let you talk crap to people when you beat them things like that and that's really the future of our business and it's interesting to be in the West and see that influence come from the east to the west and we've got two very very smart people that can talk to us about that and Larry why don't you tell us a little bit about Nexon and what you guys are doing and then vincent obviously you got your props on aov we want to talk about that next after Larry okay so Larry once you kick us off for those you know next son we're obviously you know based out of like our main operations is in Korea Japan and our largest businesses actually comes out of China but in Korea we actually have huge R&D operations a few thousand people that are constant developing new games and we've always been under the belief that like the gaming industry's gonna continuously move towards a higher fidelity world I think one at least talked about technology trends you know is 5g there's something a lot of talk about VR AR block but now I think there's been sort
of this for some reason not enough II wasn't talking about 5g and the impact it can have an industry if you look at Asia where like broadband Connect is widely available they even have to like download like hot you know if these high fidelity you know these heavy asset games and we've been producing a lot of triple-a high fidelity games in Asia where we had like these you know really immersive RPG experiences and we're starting to see those kind of games resonate over here and we're gonna think what you're gonna see in the coming year with some games like we have in our pipeline like Kart games call like Durango which is a full blown-out like Dino survival MMO game and another RPG in game called darkness rises which looks like you know a console experience RPG game we're gonna confuse between those games out you're given some of the trends that we're seeing in the Western world now where people are certainly become more receptive he's a high fidelity you know hi gigabyte have a gaming experience that's good to know so Vincent once you talk to us and I'm gonna drop a little knowledge too I mean what's really interesting is that the the inflow of these games from the east specifically MOBAs are now displacing
candy crush for the first time fourteen percent of the people that play MOBAs monetize versus three to four percent in puzzle casual games so now for the first time we have games that have displaced candy crush for months at a time now so the future is definitely more high fidelity and very bright so talk to us Vincent about what you guys are doing a ten-cent and how you're helping us get there okay thank you for a question I think we just start our business in Asia we're like oh I see stronger trend to go into mobile than here because in Asian markets we have like a week or consul culture in our history so which means for a lot of people Mobile is their first screen how they make men came in device so we developed the high fidelity games for these people in Asia we're thinking about to bring the success to the West world it's a kind of different but we still see a lot of potential here so again like myself and also a lot of users I talk to in our user research
that for me because I play a lot like a dota and League of Legends and lots of the competitive games in PC era but now given I'm going to be aged so it's I don't have the luxury anymore to play a lot of PC so they're really just these high fidelity mobile competitive mobile titles gave me opportunities to play a mobile to enjoy the competitiveness in my daily life so we still see the strong live here maybe not like Asia but we see the trend so we will bring more and more like high fidelity games here for example like arena Vella as a mobile game and also recently you start the trend of pop G mobile and a lot of them in the future so pop G mobile and like so night that everyone's playing really just gives us more confidence that they kind of have a game can be popular in the West so they inspire us to develop more this kind of high fidelity games in the future great great so one of the other
questions I think is let's talk about hardware really quickly let's talk about where phones are where they're going each of you guys maybe start off Alex what you're rocking in your pocket and why man well right now I'm using the iPhone X but actually for gaming and I prefer the the new razor phone mainly just the no but I but I'd say for for standard use I have the the X but but really for gaming I mean just the just having the you know 1920 by 1080 you know the typical kind of screen resolution plus kind of the high refresh rates I think those are starting to matter for gamers and you know as the chipsets get better and you know as Lawrence mentioned you know just the networking getting so much faster and it's it's really this is rivaling what you would have you know in as a PC or desktop so I mean any any kind of
experience will be able to really be there ultimately so but yeah cool cool about you Vincent what are you rocking in your pocket I'm bringing I for sure and also they're a new razor phone because working in mobile game means to me both iOS and Android devices for like that play right for hours for sure the iPhone acts can really test the newest of feature with our games but for either phones not only because technically is good for high fidelity games but also I think that brings the gamer spirit to mobile which means like because we share the same vision that sooner or later mobile device or mobile phone can be a man gaming device for people in the future so that's why I used like this kind of device gives me a very strong
belief that when I'm working on nice nice what about you Larry I actually don't have a razor phone I've actually wanted one things a beautiful looking device I think that's a him I'm rocking an iPhone 10 and you know as I was playing fortnight when the owner first got it now instead was becoming available I'm not in mobile devices I'm forgetting the beta and being fortunate one of the first ones they actually get you know good one early beta emails just being blown away by sort of the quality and I think that's when I sort of realized that the tipping point finally came in the West as well too that these high fidelity Triple A experiences with virtual d-pad all these things that everyone was telling us that it wasn't gonna work in the West that this was sort of like the mass markets or a tipping point opportunity and I think I think I think with the things you can see at 110 and what the future hardware is and also so into as well too is a ruminants are rivaling what you can start playing on PC devices or consoles very very soon absolutely what about you so iPhone 10 and razor phone I want to
focus a second is the fact we're even talking about a flight what is our gaming mobile device like this that's an interesting conversation to have in general because it's not typically games are something you did on a phone you purchase for other reasons but we're sort of coming full circle right we're now you are actually able to start purchasing devices for games that you might also use for a phone right I mean in fact the phone app might be one of the less used components of these devices anyway these days but like overall I I love the fact and obviously like super evil is partnered with with razor on this that we can work with manufacturers that specifically are focused on creating gaming peripherals for mobile first gamers and high fidelity gamers across the globe and it's just an area that while I do think companies like you know Apple or Google will certainly kind of dabble in they don't have the core culture structure like Razer does to the industry and
obviously for any developer you need to have multiple devices to figure out what the experiences but I quite enjoy the phone I cannot wait till the next one comes out at some point in the future right nice thank you Anatoli yeah I'm still rocking an old Nokia ngage phone you know just forget yeah I don't have a razor phone Note 8 and iPhone acts as well and the actual iPad pro cuz you know a Becket game inside we built the domination game four five years ago which was the first kind of like competitive 5.54 game back in the days and they're all a device back then that could play that was like iPad 2 and higher and I think like that we have this conversation five years later and we finally came to a point when you could have mobile games that rock like 50 or even 100 mil plus players like clash royale playing competitively it's just it's not even about being like high fidelity as you mentioned like the network's is their final so you could play quest real with the pink of like less and less than a second and when 5g
will come like I've seen the numbers and time WC they promise you like less than 10 millisecond lag you could play full fidelity first-person shooter game is legit eSports rules and stuff like that so super excited for we are right now and I think it's can a mix of talking about high fidelity and most low fidelity because games that are super accessible and run on lower end devices expand the horizons of the whole industry so it's not only about like back then we only had like maybe 50 ml iPad devices with hardcore gamers nowadays anyone can play clash or yeah like hundreds of millions of players so I think we should think about both ends of the fidelity of games here good point good point okay for me I have I play mobile games for a living literally so I actually have an iPhone it's a seven I haven't upgraded yet because I have a razor phone as well and for me the biggest difference everyone's saying
they have the razor phone it but I'm on it's the same thought as Vincent where it's necessary for me to have them both but for me my preference for playing mobile games is gonna be the razor phone just because it's got 120 Hertz especially when you're playing FPS games it makes a huge difference I know a lot of you guys only have 60 FPS right now but if you guys have ever seen 60 FPS on 128 screen it's still a huge difference even if I'm just browsing an Instagram or something casual its it makes a huge difference I don't know if you guys are competitive an FPS but I used to play so much counter-strike when I was younger and I see a huge difference in that competitive edge and like you guys were saying that eSports is getting bigger and bigger and you're gonna start needing that advantage especially with the iPhone 10 it's only at 60 Hertz because they chose to go over the OLED route and with that you can't do 120 Hertz yet it's not economically feasible and that's why I prefer that one oh good good example well let's take that as a transition talk economics because this segment continues to grow exponentially when you have games like pub G that are generating over a hundred million a
month fortnight right now is generating over two million a day February alone fortnight generated over a hundred and twenty six million dollars in mobile so we're in this timeframe right now where I'm certainly excited I've been in gaming for 25 years and in mobile since 2003 and never once have we ever seen hardcore gamers getting pulled off of a PC or console to mobile we've never seen this console is starting to shrink mobile is massively growing the kegger on mobile right now depending upon where you look 12 to 19 percent growth over the next three years we're talking about gamers that grow up with mom and dad's iPad their iphone their mobile first do you have games like fortnight like pub G all these other games they're really catering to those audiences so now we're pulling it's actually more of a push than a pool right because you have a native user that's used to mobile and it's their first device so maybe let's
talk about that I mean all of us here in the mobile industry now we have this great opportunity to pull in those whales those people that are spending mad money that are gonna perpetuate your brand perpetuate your grant your games so how do we leverage that now how do we leverage this new mobile gamer that's in our ecosystem so maybe until you're ready to go but go for yeah that is so obsessed both by play but to rayel's tell games in just traditional classic FPS games well we launched the console boom exactly a year ago and now it grew to almost 40 million players in a year I think we've been the first ones to crack like auto-aim auto shoot all that accessibility on the phones with fps and I really wondered what's gonna happen when all the batter oil games will come to mobile and I'm so obsessed with the new audience and mobile that came from PC we should thank those guys defense and Nettie's was the rules of survival with fortnight with Babji because this fully legit PC eSports audience came to
mobile for the first time to get the same style experience and it turns out it's really hard to play that on mobile like you need to have three hands should we push enough buttons to do the same stuff that you do in PC so I was surprised that that audience flocked in huge numbers to guns of boom and it even validated that's like five minute sessions for FPS versus battle royale like just the same as with MOBA games it could drag in the forty minute space and just too long compared to the classical smaller session games so I would say that fps and mobile because both of those spectrums like really long session times with betrayal still games and super short ones and super happy that audience came to mobile like it just legitimizes everything that we do and yes we're excited that's cool anybody else have any thoughts on that I think it's an interesting right point of opportunity it's interesting to just seeing with pub G and and with fortnight
as well that how players will play with cross-platform as well that was really fascinating to me as well and you know just the sticking point of the controls I feel like has always been such a big thing for mobile you know how are you going to overcome that and I think what these games are proving is that you know that that's really not an issue anymore that you know it's almost a paradigm shift from kind of when consoles came out you know everyone had the same complaint you know are you ever gonna play competitively on a controller versus mouse and keyboard but now you know this is this new generation of player that's coming in and they've grown up you know playing on countless you know touchscreen devices and you know they're ready for these experiences you know they're ready for the for high fidelity games I was gonna say like so you always talk to your kids about like not touching everything when they're young right because I just want to like literally reach out and touch everything so it just seems to make sense that the like trying to aim to
push PC players or console player Avid's that are like you know mid 20s 30s and older probably not the best like long term strategy but like getting validation from them because they see that it's a core gaming experience and they're like you know what these devices these games are becoming so much better and that's cool I can I can drive with it but the mobile first gamers that are basically downloading these things right out of the gate they're the devices they have in their pocket because they don't have to ask mom and dad for a PC or a console they just happen to also have a phone because they need it to talk to them and they're able to download their games and that is their first experience it just means so much more that they have the same accessibility that everyone else does whether it's a PC or a console and when smc set out to make vainglory a number of years ago i mean that was the kind of driving functionality as can I be a mobile-first gamer and have accessibility to a game that has deep rich like lore and heroes and it like advanced techniques and come
to find out like when you're MVP of a world in the tower world event is 14 or 15 the answer is resoundingly yes yeah we had to go through the same accessibility face to bring FPS to mobile and I think up to Alex point like when we heard from touch arcade and couple of other sites that we brought PC style experience to mobile and to legitimise those controls and we improved accessibility this was kind of a pivotal moment for us to understand that actually could just disrupt fps in the mobile it did exist before like you could play modern combat 5 by Gameloft and toddler games but something essential was missing in this kind of this about this space so I think like clash Royale did a huge favor to all the mobiles and daughters by saying this is how you play it on a single screen so when you get it you could go and play a bigger version of that which is much longer session and much more complex the same with pop Gees for us
accessibility for a lot of those games is an absolute key just let's talk about accessibility for a minute and just kind of set people's expectations who here thinks that like Facebook is still the number one downloaded app on Android I thinks it's in the top five yeah what game beat Facebook for the first time in the history of Android pub G think about that and someone said Pokemon go I love that that's a great transition Pokemon go is still gonna top four highest grossing mobile games in the world and no one's talking about it we're now talking about fortnight in Battle Royale so is what we're talking about is it fad fashion or is it the future of gaming and that's another one of these provocative discussions we want to have right now because that's where we're at you know I think everybody and their mother probably got driven off the road
or bumped into try to do pub G at one point I mean uh I mean sorry um Pokemon go pardon me at one point now everybody's knocking people's heads off and doing head shots if that's the same people are doing this with Bob G so let's talk about that let's talk about where mobile gaming is going it to me that indicator shows that it's going more core and then it's going more hardcore so maybe Vincent once you talk to us a little bit about that since you know a little bit about pub G actually we we see very strong shown that everything is a goes to mobile right so everything goes to mobile means people gonna spend more time on their phone that also changed the needs of mobile game or mobile gaming from like a silly single time killer to like a deeper entertainment so especially for the touchscreen generation I agree with Ben you just said I mean we see a strong trend that people the touchscreen generation who really just grow up with
touchscreens just spend even more time on their phone we've seen that teenagers in the u.s. forty four percent or even more of them play more than five hours of mobile games on their phone so which means there's strong needs there so I think the poverty mobile I'll other like the high fidelity mobile games really just the meta needs so in the future we can see even stronger trend of death it's a good point here's another fun little fact for everybody in the US phone users have spent more time playing fortnight than they have on tinder in the month of April they're playing fortnight but again tinder highest-grossing app this isn't inescapable use this is this is really big and this is a huge movement so I think we've kind of established the size and scale this where do we think it's gonna go next you know there's there's some other esports tracks after
this so maybe let's talk about mobile esports oj you know a little something about that won't you talk to us about what it's been like I mean you know you know look I'll throw my little Razer pitch out there I mean we raised our have been in eSports since 2005 since it was called cyber sports and that's really why we created a phone because we saw this momentum we saw the shift to high fidelity gaming to gamers wanting more computing power and wanting and seeing that difference in that fidelity and now it's really really amazing to see the content catching up and let's kind of start that off Oh Jane what do you think do you think there's going to be more high fidelity content coming it's gonna require more devices because look one of my kids was one of them but there's a lot of pissed-off kids out there because fortnight didn't play on their daddy's old iPad I had to buy a new one that is high fidelity gaming when the number one game in the world doesn't play on 60 percent of the install base but yet it's still the number one in the world think about that you tell me any other platform where you cut 60% of the install base and you still go to market kick everyone's ass
pretty telling so Oh J knock us out I think there's so much potential in mobile games especially with how everything's becoming more and more competitive lately like I was in Singapore for vainglory and I was just an overall really amazing experience I've been at the clash rau World Finals in London that was for a million dollar prize pool and it's just crazy to see that these mobile games are producing a really huge prize pool of that mobile that MOBAs have been producing like dota legal legends all of that stuff it's just that you'll be able to compete on a device and I think we're gonna start seeing more and more of that from FPS games as well where you're obviously gonna have an advantage with the mouse and that always will be there's like you said you guys crack the auto-aim I thought that was really cool for guns of boom but it's just it's not the same it's like if you thought console gamer would never match up with a PC gamer so this in the same sense so I definitely see games like pub G being really
competitive in an isolated environment where it's like everyone is using the same device so it's a fair competitive environment yeah well we recently launched a POI sports play mode for gun so boom which makes kind of fair play field for the players so it's a special setting for the leaks out there that once you played that you have that as far as gameplay as I would say quake 2 so as an axis sports game race to play quick to CDF competitively and quake 3 and csgo so for me this was super important to establish that and it's I think he just did a great hookup talking about the leaks and stuff so the next session is by ESL and we're announcing finally a cup for Gonzaga we're celebrating one here so have 200k prize pool running go for since the next week and then doing things like the leaks over the summer and then the finals in LA by winter so I think FPS on mobile
has been legitimized game by game first with bigger tires and and with more competitive title so I will see more of that and as more people will flock to that I think the biggest question actually to answer and even to ask ourself is when we will have this mega League of all the mobile games out there when we could come to a single place and play both five-minute session games like clash Royale the super quick ones like run saboom five-minute sessions and then the bigger ones like 40 minutes once both babji's and mobiles and others so once we will get to that point once we will have enough diversified content I think it's gonna be a game changer to have just people in a single room going through the mini mini tournament's probably across the stores anything like that will see that maybe even by the end of this year I think so so I think for me it's the scale is just almost unfathomable to how big it will be and
we're still in such the early days for this type of stuff I mean you can kind of see it's it just requires so many partners to make it happen it's not it's the developer the publisher the OEMs it's it's you know 5g coming out Intel co-responsibility is it's the the platforms where you have to have a relationship with Apple or you know to be on there and the fact that you can even see these major platforms dedicating sections of their app stores to just games like people are sort of leaning into it but kind of casually right now and it's like 2018 is going to be a massive year because so many manufacturers developers publishers mobile games is no longer the can it be big it's we know it will be big it's just a matter of who's going to help lead the charge and I think you know companies like $0.10 obviously and and China and AIPAC and and doing some amazing things they're companies like super evil like just there's there's so
many moving pieces and I'm just really excited for us to get to a point where we I mean you know rising tides raises all ships kind of mentality rides so for me like the numbers are impressive today but when your best gaming device is the one in your pocket it's pretty much endless what the possibilities are right yeah well a little bit about the game services companies and like I thought that maybe Xbox Live or PSN someone like that would come in into the mobile space and disrupt to provide those matchmaking services to streaming services but we have seen that YouTube gaming the biggest for us we have like over 200k user-generated uploaded videos by gamers which once it will get the proper for inter mobile things out there for all of our games it's gonna be huge and like there are just so many things with this court and like new services like the guys you like bunch to do much making for players before they start playing games they create groups I think we will have this next fruitful year of mobile game centric services that will enable those
players to experience the league's to experience the streams in a much better way as the first generation of products kind of like the first mobile only streaming apps they kinda sucked so we'll see more of that cool well we have about seven and a half minutes left you want to leave some time for Q&A and hopefully those of you in the audience we've provoked your thoughts enough to ask a few questions so please you got some really smart capable people up here to shoot away if anybody has any questions don't be shy I know we didn't do a clear enough job answer every question my hobbies senior yes [Music] [Music] wave
wish we had guys from not marble and furnish to talking about that stuff but maybe not so I don't know I I'm actually not seeing that in us yet I think it's yet to come like yh2 is huge if I were but he was it's kind of like I don't know like what's the perception that like our Chairman spent 200k online and too recently just building up his clan and doing things but I wouldn't say that's a indicator yeah so it's very region specific right so mobile gaming is absolutely beyond scale massive and other in countries not in the US so the United States doesn't do the best job in media of explaining just how big mobile gaming is I mean if you're in China mobile gaming is like breakfast lunch and dinner right it's just part of the the expected culture of gaming so first-person shooter is becoming popular Fortnight bringing it to mobile I think
that's amazing but it certainly isn't the first and there's plenty of mobile games that once it like coming to the west is is still difficult it is still not the easiest thing because the West is a PC console sort of heavy mindset but once again like we're getting there his generations grow up with these devices as people if you're a PC gamer from like older days you remember what it was like just being accepted as a gamer on a PC or the console gamers are the cool gamers with Halo right like it's just we're past those days to some extent in gaming but mobile is just kind of the new white elephant in the room if you will in terms of acceptance it's gonna take the same kind of fortnight's style transition maybe like for the Warcraft or some huge triple-a branded will define what time Amon Mobile could be just by doing that same as we spoke women go like this is like the household name that will define what MMO could be a mobile perhaps that yeah I was just gonna say to your point earlier as well
it's interesting to see people use you know these games more than tinder even because it really is your phone is your primary social touch point and you know of course you know as been mentioned you know we are dominated by kind of console and PC so far but I think that's the tide is definitely starting to change and people are seeing the advantage of having you know this compact powerful device in their pocket and you know we all remember kind of lugging our CRTs around for for you know little land parties but now I mean that that kind of interaction can happen at a school it can happen organically you know just with a group of friends and you know that that to me is the most powerful thing about mobile is just that that organic Ness and that you know the camaraderie aspect of it which is you know always what I think that kind of the court kind of experience in games is with friends and you know Mobile is
first and foremost for that any other questions there we go [Music] what does it cost to get a game approved like certified to launch in China cost in terms of what in terms of money or money in terms of money I guess there's no like a cost for that but that costs a lot of I mean approval ray approval I think there's the very minimum money to cause about the time engine lots of time to deal with the government to talk about policy and really it is a review the content you have and also the monetization model because for example like a damn boring stuff is prohibited in China so I need to review it may take a lot of time so cause the time is you'll be longer but in terms of money I think it's made minimum it's very hard
to answer the question I mean without seeing the real game but what's the government tried in China per my understanding just a personal opinion they really just care about I mean the graphic I mean the art and also the manager model just mentioned camera is very sensitive yeah there's a clear mobile infrastructure discrepancy between a pack and the West and that obviously impacts the type of games that are popular in specific regions synchronous or asynchronous multiplayer how do you guys see that trend changing over the next five years yeah I think that platforms like both Google and Apple could do better think by driving that forward because even if they would enable things kind of like Xbox Live ups any on a platform level we would see more games being built from scratch with clients with tournaments leaks and
things so right now I think it's a luxury by companies like us to build those this whole infrastructure this whole leaks and partner with bigger companies and definitely there is a lot of discrepancies so I think there are going to be a lot of game changers smaller services that will enable that type of products at that type of flakes and make it much more accessible to everyone and we'll see transition into that space much quicker like again back to the point of services next 12 months will be defining for this industry I think you take it a further step I mean with the the the one thing we haven't talked about is 5g5 G is really kind of the second coming the first use case is going to be gaming low latency high high connectivity I think that's gonna roll it really one of the catalysts to growth but to address your question I think more specifically I think you have to look at the psychographics of in the genres that are really hot in those areas the u.s. is its you know we're always going to be first-person shooter overwatch was the king now it's fortnight I feel bad for
Blizzard because every kid who was playing overwatch he's now playing fortnight daily at a huge rate the MOBAs did come over and those of us that are into MOBAs and played them we enjoyed them but our culture the first-person shooter instant gratification blow people's heads off that's really what we're into you know you go from the east it's Moore's fatigue it's worth strategic it's a little bit more storytelling but now the the East and West are really coming together and these big new gameplay pattern I mean Battle Royale I've been doing first-person shooters for 25 years that's the first real innovation in one of the most the rapists areas of gameplay honestly and it hasn't been reinvented for years so that was really a paradigm shift in that genre but that genre is big here so that's another thing you have to look at and and that's why we're excited and that's why you're seeing pop G take over the likes of tinder and things like that in the US because that just shows where this mindset is and this growth potential so we're out of time unless there's any more final questions we have any more questions right there sir
the controls change remote names that-a-girl [Music] I'll tee this up really easily and I know Vinson you probably know this pub she just announced than any later didn't thank for but from what we've seen that that's it's taking more like a concept because that's not the original purpose we develop mobile game because mobile game the beauty of mobile game is accessibility how to really just make the high fidelity game fit into your daily life so I think that's the spirit of that so for what you just said I mean like it developed a used mobile phone as a controller for your PC game actually it's got just about four more like a concept yeah we do believe that in the future I mean the mainstream of high fidelity mobile game is that just make
it more fit to your turned it into your daily life yeah it's like being able to play the game you want to play whenever you want to play it how you want to play it is kind of the key so a lot of these extra peripherals a lot of companies are doing or they're really cool but ultimately it's the mass-market accessibility that drives the phenomena of mobile gaming across the board so as soon as you add peripherals or add any other requirements to it it does take away that kind of barrier to entry ease right so I think it's why not right like why not try it why not make the large monitor up here and I'm using my phone as a controller like there's a lot of really cool concepts but as long as the core is just about being able to use your phone is the primary driver then I think you know ultimately that's a success story the most hot part or like a most interesting part of developing a mobile game for me I like to find a balance point between like the playing quality or excitement level versus the
convenience so it's very hard to find a balance point so every mobile game developer 20 velop games there's thinking about that we need to think about the scenarios that people play mobile games no matter it's like in commuting or before go too bad and then develop past experience based on that so I think that the most important thing for a mobile game no matter it's a casual game all - at it again I'm actually worried about the future of PC gaming now five years is gonna suck to plan PC right if everything is so accessible until you put it on the go then it's gonna be a big question why PC and you would find some of the airplay games that you could stream to the to the TV plane as hi-def as it gets I mean 1080p it's not like no I'm before compression or lag it's his night if as it gets like I played asphalt by Gameloft and it was 60fps smooth experience so in a year or two I think we might need to have a choice and to talk about like why PC that's money
that might be a thing like maybe we'll do that one next year yeah right all right look everybody thanks for your time I know we've run out of time but Alex Vincent Lawrence Lawrence Ben and totally Oh Jay thank you for your time [Applause] [Music] [Music]
The mobile gaming industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation as it shifts from casual, low-complexity titles toward high-fidelity, hardcore experiences that rival traditional console and PC gaming. This evolution is driven by a new generation of players who view mobile devices as their primary gaming platform, demanding deep, immersive, and competitive gameplay. Titles such as battle royales and MOBAs have successfully bridged the gap between platforms, proving that complex, synchronous multiplayer mechanics can thrive on touchscreen devices and fostering the growth of mobile eSports.
Technological advancements serve as the primary catalyst for this transition. The widespread adoption of high-refresh-rate displays and the rollout of 5G connectivity have eliminated previous barriers to performance, enabling seamless, low-latency competitive play. These hardware improvements, combined with the development of sophisticated mobile-centric social and matchmaking services, have allowed developers to deliver AAA-quality experiences to a global audience. Consequently, these high-fidelity titles are increasingly displacing traditional puzzle games in Western markets, offering superior monetization potential and significantly deeper player engagement.
While regional preferences between the West and the Asia-Pacific market continue to influence development strategies, the industry is converging toward a unified future where mobile hardware is no longer a secondary consideration. As mobile devices become the dominant global gaming platform, the distinction between mobile and traditional gaming is rapidly eroding. The industry is now focused on scaling these immersive experiences, ensuring that mobile games provide the same level of performance and long-session entertainment that players have historically associated exclusively with dedicated gaming hardware.
