24% of marketing professionals have exited the games industry entirely.
The Big Games Industry Employment Survey 2025 provides a comprehensive analysis of the global gaming job market, examining trends in employment, career mobility, and professional well-being. Conducted by InGame Job and Values Value, the study synthesizes data from 1,650 industry professionals across 85 countries, encompassing a diverse range of roles including developers, artists, designers, marketers, producers, and engineers.
The findings reveal a challenging professional landscape characterized by significant instability and widespread burnout. Approximately 26% of surveyed professionals experienced layoffs within the past year, with game designers, artists, and quality assurance specialists facing the highest impact. Furthermore, the industry has seen a notable exodus of talent, as 24% of marketing professionals have left the sector entirely. Despite these pressures, 87% of respondents continue to identify salary as the primary factor in their career decisions, while 50% report experiencing burnout.
The survey also highlights shifting professional priorities and market interests. A significant portion of the workforce, 41%, is currently engaged in personal projects, suggesting a trend toward independent work or career diversification. Conversely, interest in the hyper-casual game segment has plummeted, with only 1% of respondents expressing an interest in developing titles within that category. By exploring these metrics alongside AI adoption and general career satisfaction, the study offers a detailed overview of how current economic and structural shifts are reshaping the global games industry.
