The Brazilian games industry has experienced significant expansion, evolving from 133 studios in 2014 to 1,042 developers by 2023. This growth is characterized by a prevalence of micro and small studios, with 93% focusing on original intellectual property. The industry employed 13,225 professionals as of 2023, reflecting a 6.3% year-over-year increase. While the workforce remains male-dominated at 74.2%, the sector maintains a highly flexible operational model, with 70% of studios functioning remotely.
Market data indicates that the Brazilian game development industry generated approximately $251.6 million in revenue in 2023. Although mobile gaming dominates the broader consumer market at 51.7%, domestic production is more diversified, with PC and mobile titles each accounting for roughly 24% of output. International collaboration is a critical component of this growth, as many studios engage in work-for-hire services, particularly with partners in the United States, Latin America, and an increasingly prominent Western Europe.
These findings are derived from the second national survey of the games industry, conducted by the Brazilian Association of Digital Game Developers (Abragames) and the Brazilian Agency for Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil). The research utilized data from 343 participating studios, representing approximately one-third of the total national ecosystem. Beyond the development landscape, the report highlights Brazil’s status as the largest games market in Latin America, boasting an audience of 103 million players, 82% of whom identify gaming as a primary form of entertainment. The demographic profile of this audience is broad, with a majority of players aged between 19 and 44.
