Backed by South Korean company AfreecaTV, SOOP is designed for international esports and gaming audiences. It will be accessible via web browsers for PC users and through dedicated mobile applications.
The live streaming platform SOOP, a project backed by the South Korean company AfreecaTV, is scheduled to launch its global beta on June 5, 2024. Designed specifically for international esports and gaming audiences, the platform will be accessible via web browsers for PC users and through dedicated mobile applications for Android and Apple devices. The service will initially support English, Thai, and Chinese languages, with a North American rollout beginning on June 4.
To establish a competitive presence, the platform has secured exclusive partnerships with several high-profile figures in the gaming industry, including professional players such as Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, Byung-chul “BuZz” Yu, and Bae “Knee” Jae-Min, alongside various prominent content creators. Furthermore, the service has entered into a strategic partnership with Riot Games to exclusively produce and operate the Valorant Challengers Thailand 2024 tournament and has acquired broadcasting rights for the Valorant Champions Tour in Thailand.
The platform aims to differentiate itself through technical features and content variety. At launch, it will offer integrated virtual avatar creation through a partnership with MASCOZ and provide users with real-time live stream translation capabilities. The content library will feature original programming, including broadcasts of the AfreecaTV VALORANT League, the Global StarCraft II League, and various other professional esports leagues. By leveraging the existing infrastructure and regional experience of its parent company, AfreecaTV, the platform seeks to expand its footprint across global markets, including Southeast Asia and North America.
