The Indian esports tournament operator Skyesports has announced the return of the Skyesports League, featuring the mobile title Pokémon UNITE. This expansion into mobile esports highlights the operator's ongoing efforts to diversify its competitive offerings within the Indian market. The league utilizes a city-based franchise model, aiming to foster regional engagement through localized team branding.
The tournament features eight teams, each representing a major Indian city: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Delhi, Punjab, and Kolkata. These organizations, which include prominent entities such as S8UL, GodLike Esports, and Revenant Esports, will compete for a total prize pool of $12,000 USD (approximately Rs. 10,00,000). To further boost visibility and audience interaction, each participating roster is required to include an influencer, leveraging the reach of popular gaming personalities to drive viewership.
The competition is scheduled to run from April 24 to May 10, 2023, with the league stage concluding on May 7 followed by the playoffs. All matches will be broadcast on the official Skyesports YouTube channel, with commentary provided in both English and Hindi to accommodate a broad regional audience. This initiative underscores the continued growth of mobile-centric esports tournaments in India, utilizing established influencer marketing strategies to maximize reach and engagement.
