Create free accounthello and welcome to pocketgaming.org busy's youtube channel i'm john jordan and what you're looking at today is the exploding world of rewarded video ads so the game we're playing here is train conductor world uh so we can see here um fairly early in the game um just unlocking some uh european stations and joining them up with tracks we can see some little trains move along there that's um aesthetic rather than anything else let's go and play a mission or kind of a mission i guess it's just the the basic things you do the the uh these are some things you can do it's not really a mission so much i've kind of played this already but you can replay them but anyway that's not really what we're talking about so nice little graphic there so we're in clone here we can see so we're training up to world it's um the third in the tranquilizer series we can just see the trains are coming and i'm just moving them so obviously none one was number one on go to track one um and one's let's see
this one's a fairly um simple i'm not fairly simple i suppose but this is um we can see here so oh that's going wrong track so there's only two tracks they go out to there's more than two coming in as we can see we've got this one here it's stuck at this it just stops there so but what you're trying not to do what you're trying to do is not get them to collide so um let's do that though let's see there we go so it collides crash terrible terrible train conductoring no now we see um we get the option to end the round which is i don't know why we want to do that because that seems quite small then continue playing so how can we continue playing um obviously i've got the minus five you look at the top of the screen so it's not like i kind of everything's reset um but now i just watch oh it's an ad for fairway solitaire which is from uh big fish games pretty uh popular game card game based around golf it's the number one solitaire game in the app store as we can see
so this is what we call rewarded video ad so i've seen a video ad which has had video ads in in games for a long time as a strong form of user uh user acquisition so this obviously the video makes it look very exciting um and if i want to when the ad finishes so here we go i can go and play it now i can go and download it for free in the app store it's kind of a very simple user interface which is just telling me go and get that game now um i don't have to do that like but i can if i want to it's a unity ads thing we can see here that's been a big driver of unity's revenue amongst other companies i could um replay the ad then i want to do that in the top left hand corner bottom left-hand corner um but most people i imagine will just go click off um off that um but what happens now oh so yeah my mistake is taken away and the game continues as before um so so that's why they call it rewarded video ads because the point is you're rewarded for watching the ad
i'm not doing that well here we're going to talk um and we've seen a massive explosion in in popularity one because most importantly because gamers like it because it's kind of nice to go well i made a mistake there um and can i can i somebody kind of get something back from making that mistake can i continue my my gameplay um the developers like it because um obviously the um players like it so that's one thing um and also they get paid obviously for the adverts and they get paid oh we've got a rare iron track that's pretty cool so i'm pretty happy really now that i watched that video not that i cared about that game necessarily but it let me continue my the flow of my game where i got this kind of cool item so we can see here um and this is generally how kind of uh these rewarded video ads are being integrated into into mobile free to play mobile games and you can even see now at the bottom you can look here it's totally separate from the gameplay me making any mistakes or such like i can just have this if your bottom left-hand corner just says a little train gold coin that says free so what goes on here so we're gonna get another reward of video ad gracious me i
think this one is gonna be for world of tanks um obviously again another big game but it's uh kind of exciting uh world of tanks blitz which is the mobile version so very simple ad there's almost like a tv ad again same thing unity ads can i download it actually i mean this one's about gigabytes i wouldn't download that um but again you know for me as a i didn't really oh let's go in and say i didn't really get anything but there i got some coins so i got some coins wasn't such a big gain i suppose as as doing it in the gameplay session where it kind of gave me effectively a life or kept me going to the end of that mission that i messed up at but you can just see for players just like it fits really well into the meta game of free to play games which is what's happening around the game the gameplay where i'm moving the trains is the gameplay the metagame is leveling up and you know opening up new cities i've got i can get to wherever these other places are i think it's frankfurt down there not quite sure where that one is over there stuttgart i think it's somewhere as well so unboxing i need more tracks to um to get over to those places
so how do i do tracks well i get missions and i get gold and those kind of rewarded videos they didn't take very long very quick and actually quite high quality ads so i'm not so bothered even if i don't like the games it's not a big hassle for me it's not like a rubbish banner ad and that's that's really just one example um lots of games now using rewarded video ads and we can just see how it really fits into the flow of a free-to-play gaming session and why players like him so much because players like him so much game developers like them and advertisers like them because they work well because because players like them as well so there we go rewarded video ads they are the thing driving a lot of mobile game monetization now thanks for watching uh poker game rpg's youtube channel don't forget to subscribe and you'll see us analyzing some more
Rewarded video advertising has emerged as a primary monetization strategy within the mobile free-to-play sector, offering a mutually beneficial ecosystem for developers, advertisers, and players. By integrating these ads directly into the user experience, developers can generate revenue while providing players with tangible in-game benefits. This model effectively bridges the gap between core gameplay and the broader metagame, where players manage resources, level up, and unlock new content.
The effectiveness of this approach relies on two distinct integration methods: reactive and proactive rewards. Reactive rewards allow players to recover from mistakes, such as continuing a mission after a failure, which preserves the flow of gameplay and reduces frustration. Proactive rewards, often accessed through dedicated interface buttons, offer currency or items in exchange for viewing high-quality promotional content. These interactions are perceived as low-friction compared to traditional banner advertisements, as they are voluntary and provide immediate utility.
Industry data and observations from titles like Train Conductor World indicate that players favor this format because it respects their agency and enhances their progression. Advertisers benefit from high-engagement placements, often utilizing platforms like Unity Ads to reach targeted audiences with polished, television-style creative content. Because these ads are non-intrusive and contextually relevant to the gaming session, they maintain high user satisfaction while driving significant monetization growth across the mobile industry. This symbiotic relationship ensures that rewarded video remains a cornerstone of modern mobile game design, balancing the need for developer profitability with a seamless and rewarding player experience.
