Create free account[Music] hello and welcome to Pocket Gamer dot biz my name is John Jordan and this is part of the in-app inspector videos for game looking at called raid from poll areum so just to go through the game play a playroom it is a at heart a squad based RPGs we've seen for many years in the mobile free-to-play mobile space coming out of Japan and China and Korea and then coming to the West particular with games like Star Wars Galaxies of Heroes marvel strike force I guess two of the most prominent ones lots of other ones as well so I'm gonna go into any of the kind of metal game stuff in this video just gonna go on the gameplay this is quite metal actually but no let's go into the battle so this kind of game is pretty much focused on RPG style characters and leveling them up and gearing them up and you do that by doing going into battles so different of
battle two is a campaign like a you know vague it's not actually vague it's a story mode if you care about the story you can go through the story dungeons obviously a must know about that just kind of grinding out resources really from that and then arenas where you're fighting against teams from other players will go into the campaign that's the clearest thing so we can see here I've done and the first two first three know how much yes I've done the Carol castle and the sewers of our NOC and think see all these silly names and the catacombs of our block and now I'm into Durham forest which is suddenly seems slightly more believable there's a dumb frost I guess there is in the UK so now let's go and have a check out this so I've done a few of these already as I think see going to battle so if I go into battle didn't see here we can kind of choose from a selection of Heroes I've got champions as they call them in this game we can see who I'm fighting there is a basic and you see in the middle a basic kind of rock-paper-scissors between different elements so blue is stronger against
green greens from Reds red / elegant blue and the purple just sits on it says I mean see here if that bothered to look at it we said normally I'm not but if you you could see we find some purple ones and some blue one so confuse Riddler's you can see I've got quite a red one so that works out there's another kind of basic system here we can see there's a leader and for the leader and three sorry and so if I choose my most powerful champion we can see here he goes in there but she's not got actually any what they call aura power so it says at the top then no champion with with all her skill selected so that's kind of another kind of way of characterizing characters if not just how strong they are in terms of their power or their stars or their gear link see this one here so she has her aura skill she increases the ally and health by 15% so it's a little heartless showing them so so we'll choose her as the captain and then we just go in and just pick those
four and go in and start we can see the energy system so it using a bit of energy to do that so it's very kind of straightforward in terms of the others we do expect from a squad based RPG I'm playing this in an auto mode I'm playing it at two times speed so at the moment on you know in these kind of games sometimes you want to go in and actually you know take it off also and decide what spells to be using against which enemies personally I think if there's not what play there I'm not so bothered if I go if I got stuck and can complete a mission I might go in and do that but the moment I'm leveling up my characters faster than the than the kind of enemy the enemies I'm coming against so it's fine you just see here we're kind of like zooming through here not really getting getting into much trouble there's different characters of course that you see here that's kind of Archer ones and there's a more kind of Mellie one to get healer ones as well they do this nice little tarts at the end there
XP goes up so wall preachers just leveled up to level 14 so that's kind of you know in that sense the kind of that's the gameplay hoping see here actually I'm only got two stars for doing that even though I completed it that's because you get one star for beating the stage two stars for being safe with no losses but three stars you have to do it with only two champions so do the next one no she's good so you can try the next one I'm just two champions and obviously just be the same thing so that's the kind of a small I'm not saying that in the game before having that normally get three stars if you couldn't if you can win the win the battle without losing any of your squad in this case it's kind of forcing the issue a little bit more and I guess we would say playing pretty well experienced in making mobile games not really made one of these games before but very experiencing kind of what we call 4x games so the kind of kind of mobile strike game of war type game so
they've done quite a lot of those Viking games I guess biking is one of the best known ones hit done and they're very much about meta game so this is the first game the player has done with this kind of more gameplay so you might not win this one am I gonna lose a character but she just healed herself so and we'll see how we get them but the point of of raid is that there's multiple layers of what you're doing here and it really is about meta game and kind of a grinding or spending if you are dead there so I'm not going to probably gonna not gonna finish this one personally so I'll come to the limit of my ability LSU's revive death don't hit that count or not probably in a die again so that was the one of the skill of that I'm she's a put them all the character so they have their special skills as well and no I think we're gonna we're gonna come a cropper in this one yeah well in these games doesn't really matter you just go back and do some more grinding
okay so lost that one and they do they're funny if I still live it up okay so it's coming of that so and go back and we're champions so that's the one we're looking at there the all characters let me see here there's gear looks like this and we've got some gear that we could level up on this so you know kind of dropping new gear and actually get given a lot of new gear when you're loving the game at the moment I've got this that's okay buuut it's a four-star boot it's this retaliation set so the whole point of the kind of gearing systems as we'd expect in this sort game is you is you try to put together they try to put them together in sets of at least two because then you get the kind of the the bonus of doing that you can upgrade them to look like deep stuff you can do and then they have their own skills so this one here looks like this is the recalled one
we just saw so you can revive an ally with 25% of their of their health and then there's this mastery system as well which I'm really not I mean it's really just don't play the games or not just I played me I'm only playing for a couple of weeks so there's this mastery system as well which is obvious kind of strategies and stuff so obviously all these characters have similar sort of things and you have this kind of unlock here so we have kind of the six gearing system and then we have this another kind of accessory she can't use this high off one because she's an orc so any champion from the high off faction can do that so kind of a restriction and then as we level up we've have these other these two other slots that come in so there's quite a lot of kind of complex stuff in there we can also go in here and if we want to level level characters up we can say select this one and we can kind of consume some of the weaker 1 star
characters and now we can upgrade looks like skill we can upgrade here I'm going again I've got any token so there's a lot of kind of fathers this one who's notice you do it yes right and so it's gonna upgrade to her skills her vine trap is up to level 2 so small small increasing the damage there so you have this kind of multi-faceted system we have lots of different champions you have lots of different kind of systems of kind of gearing them up and if you really get into our exposes for certain types of kind of character classes certain kind of gear you want to put put on them also have this sparring pit here so this is a way of just kind of leveling up so that actually that character we just saw that sorceress just sitting in here and she's being leveled up she's got a Mac to say they can't take her beyond them the Mac she's got that way you have to send her to get her more stars we can see here it's just just a time system obviously have to
unlock with currency if I want to do more of these sort of things so it's pre kind of interlinked the gameplay kind of what we'd expect in this kind of RPG you're not spending a lot of time it's not like twitch gaming is really all about based around the meta game and kind of progressing faster through these through these four things and very quickly we could go look at the arena so the arena similar sort of scenario so we're just gonna fight other people you can see what their loadout is so this is a that enemies got a fairly standard load up so some of the same ones as me because they're the kind of the kind of captures you get earlier on in the game but if we go and do this it's just that kind of PvP I'm again just just also playing it so just going through through that so all all based around the characters and the way you optimize them and the way you collect the resources you need in order to do that and as you get further into the game office it gets harder to collect these sort of resources so that's the gameplay of raid gameplay
probably not anything I think more sophisticated in terms of the meta game than we've seen from a lot of these games I guess the thing to point now is is it terms of the characters the characters are clearly the focus of it is a really you know graphically advanced game for a mobile game you know it's really kind of a lot of detail on them the character designer doing it I guess it's kind of fairly got a standard fantasy fair really but I guess this kind of game tends to appeal to young males I guess a more male focused game then we would see no surprise there with an RPG so so yeah so that's the gameplay of rate and ever get check out our other video which is looking at the kind of more looking at the meta game systems and the monetization which is another point of our in-app inspector so thanks watching the video and yeah check out the other video about raid and any comments stick them in the comment box thanks for watching

Raid: Shadow Legends is a squad-based mobile RPG developed by Plarium, a studio historically recognized for its expertise in 4X strategy titles. The game represents the developer's entry into the character-collection RPG genre, which has seen significant success in Western markets through titles like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and Marvel Strike Force. The primary objective of the game is the systematic acquisition, leveling, and optimization of "champions" through a combination of campaign missions, dungeon grinding, and player-versus-player arena combat.
The core gameplay loop relies on a turn-based combat system featuring elemental affinities that dictate tactical advantages. Players manage a squad of four champions, utilizing an energy-based system to progress through story-driven stages. A notable mechanic involves a star-rating system for mission completion, which incentivizes players to optimize their team composition by limiting the number of champions used in battle. While the game offers manual control, it features an auto-battle mode with a speed multiplier, reflecting a design focus on meta-game progression rather than twitch-based reflexes.
The game’s depth is derived from a complex, multi-layered meta-game centered on character development. This includes an extensive gear system where items are organized into sets to provide bonuses, a mastery system for strategic skill tree progression, and faction-specific restrictions on certain accessories. Players enhance their champions by consuming lower-tier characters to increase skill levels or by utilizing a passive "sparring pit" to gain experience over time. Graphically, the title emphasizes high-fidelity character design, targeting a demographic primarily composed of young males. Ultimately, the experience is defined by the constant cycle of resource management, grinding, and the strategic optimization of champion loadouts to overcome increasingly difficult content.
