Pokémon GO achieved a significant financial milestone by reaching $1.8 billion in global player spending two years after its initial launch. Despite the natural decline in the intense initial fervor that characterized its 2016 debut, the game maintains a consistent revenue stream, currently generating over $2 million in daily player spending. As of June 2018, the title remained a top 10 grossing application globally, earning approximately $70 million for that month alone.
The revenue distribution highlights the United States and Japan as the primary markets, contributing 34 percent and 28 percent of total earnings, respectively. Other key regions include Germany, Great Britain, and Taiwan. Platform-wise, Google Play accounts for 58 percent of the total revenue, while the Apple App Store represents the remaining 42 percent. These findings are derived from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform, which tracks mobile application performance across international markets.
The sustained success of the game is attributed to ongoing developer efforts to refine gameplay mechanics, such as the introduction of social trading features and engine enhancements. Looking forward, the game’s long-term commercial viability is supported by plans for expansion into the Chinese market through a partnership with NetEase. By maintaining a presence in the top-grossing charts of 21 countries, the game continues to demonstrate its status as a foundational influence on the mobile gaming industry.
