The Seoul Infernal will integrate more closely with the T1 organization, a co-owner of the team, by sharing resources.
Comcast Spectacor has officially rebranded its Overwatch League (OWL) team, formerly known as the Philadelphia Fusion, to the Seoul Infernal. This transition marks the permanent relocation of the franchise to Seoul, South Korea, where the team has operated for the past two years following pandemic-related travel restrictions. The organization will continue to share resources and facilities with T1, the South Korean esports entity that co-owns the team.
The decision to finalize the move to South Korea follows the cancellation of a planned $50 million dedicated esports arena in Philadelphia. Initially announced in 2019, the project was intended to be a 3,500-seat facility within the city’s sports complex. However, construction was halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and by late 2021, the project was officially abandoned in favor of developing a multi-use space within the existing Wells Fargo Center.
Despite the rebranding and geographic shift, the team maintains its original ownership and management structure. The roster of currently signed players will remain intact, with plans for new additions to support the team’s competitive standing for the 2023 OWL season. This strategic pivot reflects the broader challenges faced by esports organizations in establishing localized, physical home venues during the global health crisis, ultimately leading the franchise to formalize its presence in the South Korean market.
