Summary

Mastercard has launched the Mastercard Gamer Academy, a professional development initiative designed to provide aspiring industry professionals with the mentorship, networking opportunities, and skill sets necessary to pursue careers in esports. Developed in collaboration with the Berlin-based esports organization G2 Esports and game publisher Riot Games, the program aims to bridge the gap between passion and professional practice for the next generation of industry talent.

The academy will select ten participants to engage in a comprehensive curriculum covering essential business functions, including brand engagement, marketing, content creation, and event execution. Beyond technical training, the program incorporates workshops focused on mental health, resilience, and allyship. Participants will receive hands-on experience through all-expense-paid trips to major international events, such as the 2024 League of Legends World Championship and the 2024 Valorant Champions, as well as exclusive access to G2 Esports headquarters and professional teams.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old to qualify for the program, with the application window closing in December 2023. This initiative represents an expansion of the existing partnership between Mastercard and Riot Games, which has evolved over five years to include global sponsorships for both League of Legends and Valorant. By facilitating direct interaction with industry professionals and providing backstage access to premier tournaments, the academy serves as a strategic effort to cultivate professional expertise within the competitive gaming ecosystem.
